50year-old-tube-amp.jpg50 year old triode tubes single ended 3.5 WPC3936 viewsThis amp uses all triode tubes in single ended configuration and thus the circuit as short and sweet as possible. The result was 3.5 watts per channel, with 0.07% distortion at 1kHz, 1 watt and not much worse at the extremes. We also did not have the deep pockets to try the more exotic transformers and coupling capacitors available. I'd like to, though, and set up my A/B switch box to see if I could discern any difference. The A/B test with myself and others paired with a high end solid state amp with 0.007% distortion, or ten times less did not reveal any discernible difference. I have a notion that some high end speakers might make the biggest difference of all. The row of LED's are a clever circuit we designed which indicate 3 decibel increments of sound pressure level (SPL). Each 3 decibel increase in loudness requires a doubling of wattage, as many of you know. These light up in sequence , e.g. 0.04 watts, 0.08, 0.16, 0.30, 0.7, and so on to 8 watts total.

Fostex-FE206E-Double-Bass-Reflex-Speaker-Enclosure.jpgFostex FE206E in Double Bass Reflex Speaker Enclosure6916 viewsThis is the simpler enclosure recommended by Fostex for their high sensitivity FE206E drivers. The large magnet and basket spokes of the driver have been covered with bituminous damping. The upper chamber has sound deadening vinyl across the back and the rest of the upper chamber has double layers of thick Dacron lining it. The boxes are fastened using dowels, glue and wood screws. A Speaker Zobel / Impedance Equalization Circuit is used across the driver terminals. The sound soundstage is pin-point sharp and with good depth. Bass is sufficient without being heavy. For under $AU500 these speakers represent very good value. With a sensitivity of 96 dB/W my 6 W Ultra-Linear Single-Ended valve amps can produce a high sound level.

6EM7-Tube-Power-Amp-Arabella.jpgArabell - 6EM7 Tube Power Amp3952 viewsInspired by a beautiful Acacia, heavy, chopping board I fashioned this excellent sounding single-ended 6EM7 tube power amp (Arabella). To hide wiring a shallow aluminum skirt is tucked up underneath. Smaller components also reside here. Larger power supply caps are housed in a “trunk†at the back where the RCAs and gold plated speaker binding posts are also located. Tubes are Dutch made AWA NOS and Sovtek 5Y3. A large Hammond power transformer (370EX) and Hammond 20H 100mA choke (193C) grace the gorgeous wooden top plate. Edcor GXSE (GXSE10-6-5K) audio output transformers stand proud and blue to give this build a striking look and super clean pure sound. I love the amp for its looks and sound, all 2.5W of it.

UPDATE - June 2015 - see the 6EM7 Single-Ended Triode (SET) Vertical Amplifier project page for the latest revision of this amplifier.

DIY-6AS7-Tube-Headphone-Amplifier.jpgDIY 6AS7 Tube Headphone Amplifier6978 viewsMy name is Laurie. I have been building and DIYing for 45 years now and happily will never stop. This tube headphone amp is from a thread in the Form.
The power connecting cable comes from a European Travel Iron I bought for $1.00 at junk shop. (220v/6A) They will be shortened when I find a perch for the amp and me. The sound is better than my ears have ever heard so I will be keeping this one for my retirement entertainment should such a time ever come. Wink It has worked from day one and continues to please me every time it is turned on. The tubes are JJ ECC88 / 6AS7 with a 5V4 rectifier tube. To spite it's small size the parts are quite easily accessed. I over built most components so it will outlast me I fear. The only change I anticipate may be the 6AS7 to a bottle neck glass to match the rectifier tube. I do have and use a 6080 tube, but i can tell no difference in sound. It will take more then a few hours of listening to get my ears better tuned.Feb 28, 2017

4-channel-400W-amplifier.jpg 4 channel, 400 W amplifier5984 viewsThis 4-channel 400 W amplifier uses Hypex UcD400HG modules together with the corresponding power supply.
The whole is mounted inside a Galaxy 330 x 230 x 80 case.
For building instructions, have a look at this project's wiki.
Two such amplifiers has been working for over 2 years in my lounge, driving Linn Komponent 110 loudspeakers which each have 4 speaker inputs.

E88CC-SV83-SET-Amplifiers.jpgDual SV83 SET Amplifiers6213 viewsA mirrored pair of SET amplifiers, presently being used in bridged mode. All P2P construction using silver solder. I included a "Hazen grid" capacitor and input tube bias change switch. The single mA meter displays individual output tube bias current with a Left/Right switch. Edcor XPRW178 power transformer and GXSE10-6-8K output transformers. Upgraded caps to Jantzen Audio 1200V Z-Superior. Upgraded resistors to PRP PR9372 Audio for metal film and TAKMAN REX for carbon film. ALPS Blue 100K attenuator. The power supply uses a RCA 5U4GB rectifier and Hammond 156R choke. Matched pairs of Svetlana SV83 for power and JJ E88CC for the input tube.

6V6-Push-Pull-Amplifier.jpgPush-Pull (PP) 6V6GT Tube Amplifier5172 viewsThis 6V6 amp was built following the DIY Push-Pull (PP) 6V6 / 6V6GT Tube Amplifier Schematic. Power Supply transformer and Output transformers are handmade in Argentina by NavasBaccino. I'd like to thank Brad S. for the help. The sound is amazing and clear, free of distortion.
