6EM7_Single_Ended_Triode_Amplifier.jpg“Paris” – 6EM7 Dual Mono Integrated Amplifier2150 viewsWhat started as a forum thread discussion (6EM7 power amp) ended in the construction of a 6EM7 (Sylvania tube) integrated triode amplifier. I used dual mono construction with two power transformers, two 5Y3 rectifier tubes and two separate power filter stages but with a shared single stage preamp. There is a single EMI/RFI power filter feeding both power supplies. Two chokes and two 15W Edcor audio output transformers are in the base of the enclosure. An Alps blue velvet pot after the preamp stage (4S Universal) controls volume to the power amp section. The colour is Sungold and the base Mirbue. The amp has a very detailed mid-range and produces about 2W.

BeBampDStage6SN7ss.jpgBe Bamp 6SN7 remote driver-under the bonnet2130 viewsUnder the bonnet of the new 6SN7 Be Bamp remote driver stage can be seen the Russian 0.47uf paper, foil and oil caps (green) and component layout. The bi-pass caps are low ESR types and the filter cap was snubbed. Only additional wire used was the filament wire and two earth connections. The assembly method was component-2-component wiring. No hook-up wire was used in the signal path at all and the signal path is very short. Tube socket is ceramic with gold plated pin connects.

This driver stage out-performs the original 6N1P stage, to my ears anyhow. Better bass, deeper, better textured sound stage, extended reverb and a warmer sound in the mid-range.

The On/Off switch and fuse cane be seen from here. Because the OPTs were of open construction I placed them in a metal case which doubled as a terminal block for speakers and input RCAs. The tubes are JJ Blue Glass KT88.
Dons-300B-Tube-Amplifier.jpg
Dons-300B-Tube-Amplifier.jpgDon's Compact 300B Amplifier2087 viewsDon has build this exquisitely compact 300B on one of his fine Spotted Gum bases. He uses ABS for the top plate with no bottom plate. He doesn’t believe in them. The 300Bs and 6SN7 are Chinese made “Electron Tube” – Shuguang . All components underneath are high-end. Though Don is on a pension he always uses the best passive parts but skimps on the tubes. The rec. tube is a Golden Dragon 5U4. The horizontal power tranni, OPTs and choke are locally wound by Dyne and are expensive. The best amp I have heard of Dons is his 2A3 which I intend to re-borrow. This amp is new and may improve with time but for now both the top end and bottom end are a little crippled. Mids don’t sound fast and slightly masked. BUT this may all change with time. It does play very loud though on a large 3 way Osborn Eclipse @91db efficient.

Chinook_13FD7_SET_Tube_Amp.jpgChinook 13FD7 SET Tube Amplifier2085 viewsThis is the second tube amplifier I have built and of course I'm hooked BIG TIME!! I love it. The tube amplifier is the Chinook (Baby SET, 2.5W/ch) with one 13FD7 per channel and a EM80 for VU meter. OPT are Edcor GXSE10-8-5K. This amp makes for a great sound and vision show ;-)

_63-Fender-Reverb-Clone.jpg
_63-Fender-Reverb-Clone.jpg'63 Fender Reverb Clone2068 viewsHere is a photo of the last project I built. It is a rear view with the cover removed. It is a modernized clone of a '63 Fender Reverb. I changed a few things like using modern grounding and layout methods I went with larger filter caps a full wave bridge rectifier. I think I used a slightly nicer spring suspension system to "fly" the pan in it's shock isolation mounting. The input jack is grounded to the chassis but the other jacks are isolated. There are two transformers and one choke, all are made in USA with paper insulation. The enclosure is Maple. The sound is very true to the vintage Fender. It goes from very subtle to full-on spring/twang.

IMG_1943-1~1.JPGNP-100v12: 12AU7 / IRF510 Single Tube Headphone Amp2050 viewsHere's my version of the NP-100v12: 12AU7 / IRF510 Single Tube Headphone Amp, with it's companion regulator, running from an orphaned laptop power pack.

I added a simple headphone output delay during tube warmup, essentially a clone of the e12 delay from Millet Max: http://www.diyforums.org/MAX/MAXe12.php

The regulator side-kick is simply 3 50V, 1000uf capacitors before an LM317M regulator, also cobbled from the Millet Max (but without the need for the bridge diodes): http://www.diyforums.org/MAX/MAXps.php. Works swell and no noise. Audio is incredible.

6p45s_push-pull_class-A_amplifier.jpg6p45s tube push-pull class-A amplifier2036 viewsHello, my name is Vitaly Gorbachevsky from Russia. In this photograph is a push-pull class-A tube amplifier that I built. The maximum output power is about 34W per channel. The vacuum tubes used are 6p45s tubes in the output stage and a and longtail 6n23p driver tube. The name for this tube amplifier project is the SILVER GLOW.

Here is a link to an article that shows how the amplifier was constructed. http://people.overclockers.ru/primrose/record2/. Note that the the text is in Russian however that are several pictures in it that will be interesting.

Jan6814HPAmpIIAirsAnd_CownSmall.jpgJAN6418 portable Triode Headphone Amp MkII2020 viewsThe finished portable triode headphone amp/preamp on top of a pair of audio-technica “AIR” head phones and the Cowon S9 in front. This "out of the box" build of the Oatley electronics JAN6418 headphone amp / preamp has a delicious sound, is compact and quite unique. See other images. It may seem odd to be driving high-end headphones with a space age SS player (Cowon S9) with an amp which employs sub-mini valves developed for the military last century. But it sounds excellent. More information about this little tube kit is available on the JAN6418 Valve (Tube) Preamplifier / Headphone Amp Kit page.
