Jan6814HPAmpIISmall.jpgJAN6418 portable Triode Headphone Amp MkII2500 viewsThis is a straight build of the oatley electronics sub-mini headphone driver and preamp. In other builds where the basic cct. brd. is used as a preamp the passive components are upgraded and the PT2308, headphone driver chip, though very good, has been upgraded. Not here. This build uses the stock components that came with the kit. See the JAN6418 Valve (Tube) Preamplifier / Headphone Amp Kit project page for more information and other build variations..
Dons-300B-Tube-Amplifier.jpg
Dons-300B-Tube-Amplifier.jpgDon's Compact 300B Amplifier2485 viewsDon has build this exquisitely compact 300B on one of his fine Spotted Gum bases. He uses ABS for the top plate with no bottom plate. He doesn’t believe in them. The 300Bs and 6SN7 are Chinese made “Electron Tube” – Shuguang . All components underneath are high-end. Though Don is on a pension he always uses the best passive parts but skimps on the tubes. The rec. tube is a Golden Dragon 5U4. The horizontal power tranni, OPTs and choke are locally wound by Dyne and are expensive. The best amp I have heard of Dons is his 2A3 which I intend to re-borrow. This amp is new and may improve with time but for now both the top end and bottom end are a little crippled. Mids don’t sound fast and slightly masked. BUT this may all change with time. It does play very loud though on a large 3 way Osborn Eclipse @91db efficient.

Gobo-LM1875-Stereo-Amplifier-Kit.jpgGobo LM1875 Stereo Amplifier Kit2472 viewsThe Gobo Stereo Amplifier kit is a class-AB chip amp kit based around the LM1875 IC. This is a complete amp kit that includes all the necessary parts and enclosure to build a stereo amplifier. The LM1875 amp kit comes with audio-grade capacitors and toroidal transformer. The Gobo amplifier kit is easy to build, looks and sounds great. The amplifier kit is well suited to first time amp builders.

_63-Fender-Reverb-Clone.jpg'63 Fender Reverb Clone2467 viewsHere is a photo of the last project I built. It is a rear view with the cover removed. It is a modernized clone of a '63 Fender Reverb. I changed a few things like using modern grounding and layout methods I went with larger filter caps a full wave bridge rectifier. I think I used a slightly nicer spring suspension system to "fly" the pan in it's shock isolation mounting. The input jack is grounded to the chassis but the other jacks are isolated. There are two transformers and one choke, all are made in USA with paper insulation. The enclosure is Maple. The sound is very true to the vintage Fender. It goes from very subtle to full-on spring/twang.

BeBampDStage6SN7ss.jpg
BeBampDStage6SN7ss.jpgBe Bamp 6SN7 remote driver-under the bonnet2457 viewsUnder the bonnet of the new 6SN7 Be Bamp remote driver stage can be seen the Russian 0.47uf paper, foil and oil caps (green) and component layout. The bi-pass caps are low ESR types and the filter cap was snubbed. Only additional wire used was the filament wire and two earth connections. The assembly method was component-2-component wiring. No hook-up wire was used in the signal path at all and the signal path is very short. Tube socket is ceramic with gold plated pin connects.

This driver stage out-performs the original 6N1P stage, to my ears anyhow. Better bass, deeper, better textured sound stage, extended reverb and a warmer sound in the mid-range.

Chinook_13FD7_SET_Tube_Amp.jpgChinook 13FD7 SET Tube Amplifier2452 viewsThis is the second tube amplifier I have built and of course I'm hooked BIG TIME!! I love it. The tube amplifier is the Chinook (Baby SET, 2.5W/ch) with one 13FD7 per channel and a EM80 for VU meter. OPT are Edcor GXSE10-8-5K. This amp makes for a great sound and vision show ;-)

6EM7-SE-Amp.jpg
6EM7-SE-Amp.jpgSE 6EM7 Power Amplifier2451 viewsYet another 6EM7 power amplifier. This time some parts were down graded and a different internal layout technique was used. The power transformer and choke are isolated top and bottom by rubber grommets. This ensures no AC vibration reaches the tubes. The initial power supply filtering is preceded with a on-board power filter, a 20uF/450V electrolytic capacitor and a 20H/100mA Hammond choke. The HT is supplied by a Hammond power transformer and Sovtek 5Y3 rectifier tube. The second stage of filtering is 47uF and 100uF electrolytic with a large limiting resistor ensure the amp is totally free from of hum and noise. All power supply capacitors are snubbed.

This amp sounds better than the last and I think it may be the Sylvania NOS 6EM7 tubes. Sprague orange drops are used in the inter-stage coupling and once more large non-polarized capacitors for the bypass on the power tubes. For the first time I have used Chinese made H&K 15W audio output transformers, can't fault them. The look of the amp is almost under-stated "sexy" and the sound the same - sexy and natural.

UPDATE - June 2015 - see the 6EM7 Single-Ended Triode (SET) Vertical Amplifier project page for the latest revision of this amplifier.

6p45s_push-pull_class-A_amplifier.jpg6p45s tube push-pull class-A amplifier2404 viewsHello, my name is Vitaly Gorbachevsky from Russia. In this photograph is a push-pull class-A tube amplifier that I built. The maximum output power is about 34W per channel. The vacuum tubes used are 6p45s tubes in the output stage and a and longtail 6n23p driver tube. The name for this tube amplifier project is the SILVER GLOW.

Here is a link to an article that shows how the amplifier was constructed. http://people.overclockers.ru/primrose/record2/. Note that the the text is in Russian however that are several pictures in it that will be interesting.

The On/Off switch and fuse cane be seen from here. Because the OPTs were of open construction I placed them in a metal case which doubled as a terminal block for speakers and input RCAs. The tubes are JJ Blue Glass KT88.
