6s45p-300B-GU-48-Tube-Amplifier.jpg6s45p / 300B / GU-48 Tube Amplifier - 125 Watts4381 viewsA 125W DIY tube amplifier. Tube compliment is a 6s45p input tube that drives a 300B tube and followed by a GU-48 tube. See the other DIY 6s45p / 300B / GU-48 Tube Amplifier photo for a full description on the tube amp.
12inch-60L-DIY-Subwoofer.jpg
12inch-60L-DIY-Subwoofer.jpg12-inch 60L Subwoofer4380 viewsThese 60ltr sub-woofers were built to complement my 2-way speakers "VoXDeuX". The drivers are 12" polycones with a free air resonance of 25 Hz. In the box they go down to 31 Hz where they are very active. The drivers are very efficient and are being powered by a compact 50W Class-D amplifier. A stereo feed is taken from the preamp and passed through an electronic filter. The filter has a -3 dB point of 52 Hz and but employs only a -12 dB slope. The internals of the box comprise of six vertical braces. Bitumanised heavy Aluminum foil covers most surfaces. Pockets and chambers are formed at the rear by the bracing which carries additional dampening. These are then covered by a single layer of damping.

Nelson-Pass-B1-Buffer-Preamp-rear.jpgNelson Pass B1 Buffer Preamp - rear4363 viewsDIY Nelson Pass B1 Buffer from the rear shows two selectable inputs and a single output. Compared to the Nelson Pass BoZ the mid range and treble I feel are more transparent but bass weight is less. The sound is completely un-coloured. This inexpensive simple preamp has a frequency extension from 5Hz to 780kHz and is very PS tolerant.

IMAGE_145.jpgOne valve (tube) 60W guitar amplifier4356 viewsThis guitar amp comprises of one $1000 radio transmitter valve which runs on 700Volts. The driver cct. is on the left and is a multi-stage transistor unit. The OPT on the right was wound by the owner using a primary/secondary interlace config. and then vacuum impregnated. A fan is required at the base of the valve to stop the ceramic socket over-heating. Very loud!
BoZSE_-_Bride_of_Zen.jpg
BoZSE_-_Bride_of_Zen.jpgBoZoaC - Bride of Zen on a Cap4346 viewsThis build and my capless BoZSE both sound superior to my earlier BoZ builds. But which is better is hard to pick. Here is the finished BoZoaC. Two selectable Inputs on the rear and output on the left side. Small banana sockets on the right allow checking of the internal batteries without lifting the lid. The preamp could be powered through these. BoZoaC appears to have kept the great bass weight and extension of BoZSE with even better mids. Highs are about the same. Frequency range: 6hz -> 200khz. 13Vpp maximum out into 22K with 24V PS. Current draw = 12.5mA.

Picture_024.jpg1930s style singled-ended pentode4339 viewsThis is a new amplifier I designed and built using mostly salvaged parts from British electronics of the 1930s and 40s. The valves are all British 4V types, AC/SP3 driver and N41 pentode output. The power supply uses an MU14 rectifier. The loudspeaker is a 1930s energized type - so it also acts as a smoothing filter.

Twinings.JPG12AX7 Valve Preamp in Twinings Tea box4314 viewsThis is the fourth 12AX7 tube based preamplifier kit I have built. A Twinings presentation tea box was used as the case (similar to my Gwado CMoy / Grado RA1 Headphone Amp) with a remote PS. Cardas caps were used, all pure silver wire, silver solder, Alps blue velvet attenuator and 4 oz brass knob. The rear has a terminal strip for all the connections and the case is lined with a tar and aluminum film. The power supply has speaker absorbing vinyl lining it to ensure the switch mode tranni remains quiet.

6V6-Push-Pull-Amplifier.jpgPush-Pull (PP) 6V6GT Tube Amplifier4310 viewsThis 6V6 amp was built following the DIY Push-Pull (PP) 6V6 / 6V6GT Tube Amplifier Schematic. Power Supply transformer and Output transformers are handmade in Argentina by NavasBaccino. I'd like to thank Brad S. for the help. The sound is amazing and clear, free of distortion.

S-5-Electronics-K-16LS-kit-enclosure.jpg
S-5-Electronics-K-16LS-kit-enclosure.jpg4230 viewsI'm running this stock apart from the Alps Blue volume pot which I upgraded after the original sprang a leak. I'm using quite a few components bought from: http://www.mafaudio.com/pro/propage.aspx.

There are seven LED's that light up the feet and fronts of the brushed aluminum transformer cases. The LED's are powered from a 12v mains transformer bought from Maplin in the UK. The VU meters also run from the extra transformer. The chassis is made from wood bought from the local yard. To cut the VU meter holes I used a 32mm Spade bit then used a file to open the hole up to just under 34mm. The main volume control area was drilled using a 50mm Forstner bit and the tone controls a 30mm Forstner bit. It's coated in about 5-6 coats of clear varnish and involved an awful amount of sanding.

There are more photos available in my photo library.

DIY-Two-Way-Speaker-VoXDeuX.jpg
DIY-Two-Way-Speaker-VoXDeuX.jpg4228 viewsUsing inexpensive components from the local electronics shop I constructed these small bookshelf two-way speakers. They comprise a 5” paper cone mid-woofer and dampened silk done tweeter. On the sides and back is wide internal vertical bracing and bitumanised heavy aluminum foil. This forms bass chambers within the box to control rear reflection. The passive crossover sits external to the speakers and is a Linkwitz-Riley 2nd order with a crossover point set at 3 kHz. The boxes and crossovers are bi-wired using Cat5 cable from the amp to driver. They sound excellent for an AU$350 build.

Dons6C33C.jpg
Dons6C33C.jpgDon's 6C33C tube amp from Down Under with locally wound OPTs4227 viewsThis beautiful 6c33c amp is not one of mine but belongs to a regular customer of the electronics store I work at. The power tubes are the same used in Mig fighter jets as regulator tubes. Don has dropped one on a wooden floor, it bounced and he caught it. Tough tubes. The timber base is made by Don and the top plate is 4mm thick ABS plastic. The power transformers and chokes are well separated from the music making bits. He employed locally made horizontal power transformer, chokes and audio OPTs. The amp is musical and neutral sounding low bass is a little spongy and undefined when added to my all valve system. It produces 15W, not bad from a SET. The front tube is a Sovtek 6SJ7 and the amp is two stage and weighs 40lb! Mark – contributor.

See this 6c33c tube amplifier thread for more info about this tube.
