Nelson-Pass-Bride-of-Zen-BoZ-Preamplifier.jpgNelson Pass Bride of Zen (BoZ) Preamplifier5880 viewsThis is my slant on Mr Pass’s Bride of Zen (BoZ). Big Ruskie 0.1uF 40y-9 PIO military caps handle front-end de-coupling while 10uF polypropylene caps sit at the back. The 40y-9 caps are foil, paper in oil, glass encapsulated then metal encapsulated and sound divine. An Alps blue velvet potentiometer attenuates the input controlled by a 4 oz solid brass knob. Metal film resistors and silver plated wire wrap wire add quality to the custom build. This preamp is built on a strip board. The JFETs are 2SK170 BL. The RCA plugs are gold plated, 5% WBT silver solder is used throughout. Two 10,000uF caps (snubbed) ensure a dead quiet supply and loads of bottom-end. The enclosure is a Hammond anodized Aluminum case.
Nice Mongrel Dog.

Mill_2.JPGRear View of the DIY OTL Tube Amps 5849 viewsThe chassis of my amps were machined in this German Milling machine - a real beast . It had to be repaired at a few stages just to complete the build. You can see the torodials that are used for the Driver stage ( smallest ) ..The Heaters ( next largest 6.3vac @ 32A ) and the Output Power supply ( the largest toroid - 1KVA @ 100 VAC )

PradaInsideBack.jpgPrada OPA627 Preamplifier - inside5805 viewsI was inspired to build this preamp by learning of the Burr-Brown OPA627 (very high performance OP amp) and access to my daughter's Prada phone, heavy cardboard, container. The preamplifier modules are constructed on vero proto boards. Only component wire was used here. The input caps are Cornell Dubilier (white) and Solen (black) was used for the output). Metal film resistors, all pure silver hookup wire, gold RCAs jack and WBT silver solder make this a quality build. The box is lined with bitumanised aluminum foil and an Alps Blue Velvet attenuator and 4oz solid brass black knob add to this build. Four 9V lithium batteries (1200Ah each) drive the unit.

S5-K16LS-Tube-Amp-Kit-Mahogany.jpgK-16LS Tube Amp Kit (16W)5790 viewsThe S-5 Electronics K-16LS tube amplifier kit built into a Mahogany case. The tube amp kit was built with all the mods outlined in the forums here at diyAudioProjects.com. The circuit board was built with components (except the tube sockets) on the bottom side so just the tubes would be exposed. The front driver tubes is lit red with LEDs.

2nd_monoblock.JPGUnderbelly shot of the DIY OTL Tube monoblock5634 viewsStrangely enough , the second was made intentionally Mirror Image , but I had neglected the fact that the Toroids had the same winding tail positions , so the build wasn't perfectly mirror image after all . This actually was a bit of a headache , since the first was more ideally layed out in electrical design & visual eye candy

Don-SE-807-Tube-Amplifier.jpgSingle-Ended 807 Tube Amplifier5609 viewsI have stated in the past that my mate Don makes an amp a month. This month Don has completed an 807 amp based on a schematic designed by Matt from the USA and the same as I built a short time back. I took a short listen and thought it OK but a much longer review is required. Don’s iron is wound by Dyne which is near us (Melbourne, Australia) and Don’s superb enclosure bases are made by him from, once more, Australian Spotted Gum. Top plate is once more ABS and OPTs are James. This not only a smart looking amp but with some high quality passives under the bonnet and again a very neat wiring layout. In this build JJ filters caps were used. Don has another amp in the pipeline so stayed tuned. About one month from now (lol).

DIY-6NS7-KT88-Tube-Monoblocks.jpgDIY 6NS7-KT88 Monoblock Tube Amps5584 viewsI purchased these extreme valve monoblocks from Dan in Australia, who built them from the ground up, for a song. They are based on the uni-amp cct. brd. You can plug and play KT88(s), 6L6(s) and EL34(s) output valves and switch between pentode and triode mode. The transformers are oversized and were special wound for Dan. Each block weighs over 22kg. The input and driver tubes are Golden Dragon 6SN7(s) with tube rectification. It uses tranni input coupling. Power is 27W.
