Oatley-Electronics-K295-Tube-Buffer-Kit.jpgOatley Electronics K295 Tube Buffer Kit2494 viewsThe production version of the K295 has been cased in a bitumanised Al lined plastic plastic case. Guitar jack input and outputs are on the rear and large numbered knobs on the front. The blue led indicates "0" position of the attenuators. The preamp can be plugged directly into the mains. Good sounding and simple to build.

Open-Baffle-Speaker-Ciare-CH250-Front.jpgOpen Baffle Speaker with Ciare CH2507328 viewsI have assembled the Ciare CH250 full range driver into an open baffle panel (birch plywood). Size of the baffle: height 80 cm, width 90 cm, thickness 18mm. The plans are the Open Baffle Plans from Stereo Sound "Tube Kingdom". The Ciare's are running without any filter network and sound surprising good.

See my blog for more information - Open Baffle mit Ciare CH250.

Push-Pull-6F6S-286F629-Tube-Amp-with-ECC82-driver.jpgPush-pull 6F6S (6F6) Tube Amplifier with EСС82 input2164 viewsPush-pull 6F6S (6F6) amplifier. The input stage is an EСС82 with a large anode. The amplifier has been built into an old HP 5.25" floppy drive (fantastic steel!!!).

The input stage is made by Williamson, after the phase shifter with a split load and paper-in-oil capacitors. Displacement of the output stage is automatic, inclusion of a pure pentode. The amplifier operates in pure class-A. The output stage can be used with 6P6S and 6V6 tubes without any changes. There is no feedback used in this amp. The cathode resistor of preamp halves EСС82 are NOT capacitor shunted. The input connectors are Amphenol BNC and the output contacts are from an old laboratory equipment HP.

With best regards,

BoZSE_-_Bride_of_Zen.jpg
BoZSE_-_Bride_of_Zen.jpgBoZoaC - Bride of Zen on a Cap3229 viewsThis build and my capless BoZSE both sound superior to my earlier BoZ builds. But which is better is hard to pick. Here is the finished BoZoaC. Two selectable Inputs on the rear and output on the left side. Small banana sockets on the right allow checking of the internal batteries without lifting the lid. The preamp could be powered through these. BoZoaC appears to have kept the great bass weight and extension of BoZSE with even better mids. Highs are about the same. Frequency range: 6hz -> 200khz. 13Vpp maximum out into 22K with 24V PS. Current draw = 12.5mA.

Point_to_Point_Bride_of_Zen_Preamplifier.jpgBoZoaC - Bride of Zen on a Cap3926 viewsAfter building a number of Bride of Zen (BoZ) preamplifiers I realised the whole circuit could be built on larger parts of itself. Here the whole BoZ circuit is constructed on the large output capacitors. The output caps are 10uF 100V polypropylene types. These were taped together along with two 1000uF of low ESR storage caps. Parts have been reduced to minimum size to keep signal path short and super glued to the rest on the cct. Silver solder and wirewrap wire is used throughout construction. There are two switchable inputs and the preamp can be powered by internal batteries (3 X 9V lithium) or an external supply. A bitumen and Al lined, non-magnetic low resonance ABS plastic case was used. Mongrel Dog AudioJan 07, 2011

Nelson-Pass-B1-Buffer-Preamp.jpg
Nelson-Pass-B1-Buffer-Preamp.jpg2908 viewsThe Pass B1 Buffer Preamp complete in Hammond Aluminum case. The B1 is a very transparent and PS tolerant preamp/ driver. Because it is a source follower some signal is lost (about 15%). But it is an excellent attenuator and offers a high impedance input and low output and is dead quiet. This build shares the same components as the DIY JFET BoZ preamp but sounds quite different.

For more information about this build see the Russian Pass B1 FET Preamp/Buffer thread on the forum.

Nelson-Pass-B1-Buffer-Preamp-rear.jpgNelson Pass B1 Buffer Preamp - rear3281 viewsDIY Nelson Pass B1 Buffer from the rear shows two selectable inputs and a single output. Compared to the Nelson Pass BoZ the mid range and treble I feel are more transparent but bass weight is less. The sound is completely un-coloured. This inexpensive simple preamp has a frequency extension from 5Hz to 780kHz and is very PS tolerant.

Nelson-Pass-Bride-of-Zen-BoZ-Preamp-Aluminium-Case.jpgNelson Pass Bride of Zen (BoZ) Preamp - Aluminum Case3373 viewsThe finished Nelson Pass Bride of Zen (BoZ) Preamplifier. Where I though the Nelson Pass B1 buffer had excellent bass, the BoZ came in and made bass reproduction even heavier. Not more extended just weightier. Mid range and treble are extended and detailed. The Hammond aluminum cases sure are smart. You need a very, very quiet PS for this preamp. Any hum just leaches right through.

There is more info and notes in the JFET BoZ (Bride of Zen by Nelson Pass) thread on the forum.

Nelson-Pass-Bride-of-Zen-BoZ-Preamplifier.jpg
Nelson-Pass-Bride-of-Zen-BoZ-Preamplifier.jpgNelson Pass Bride of Zen (BoZ) Preamplifier4480 viewsThis is my slant on Mr Pass’s Bride of Zen (BoZ). Big Ruskie 0.1uF 40y-9 PIO military caps handle front-end de-coupling while 10uF polypropylene caps sit at the back. The 40y-9 caps are foil, paper in oil, glass encapsulated then metal encapsulated and sound divine. An Alps blue velvet potentiometer attenuates the input controlled by a 4 oz solid brass knob. Metal film resistors and silver plated wire wrap wire add quality to the custom build. This preamp is built on a strip board. The JFETs are 2SK170 BL. The RCA plugs are gold plated, 5% WBT silver solder is used throughout. Two 10,000uF caps (snubbed) ensure a dead quiet supply and loads of bottom-end. The enclosure is a Hammond anodized Aluminum case.
Nice Mongrel Dog.

P37aFinishedS.jpgElliott Sound Discrete transistor preamp P37A4781 viewsI made this for a very loyal customer with nothing but a schematic and vero-board. Worked first time. Low current draw (~3mA @ +/- 16V). The sound is very clean and flat. This preamp will definitely please the purist solid state amp lovers.

See the project page for the schematic: Minimalist Discrete Hi-Fi Preamp - Project 37, Revision A

More information about this build is available from the Elliott Sound Products Discrete SS Minimalist Hi-Fi Preamp thread.
