FE167E.JPGFostex FE167E Fullrange Driver in Bass Reflex Enclosure6488 viewsI required some efficient speakers to compliment a small valve (6T9) amplifier which produced only a few watts. Here are the finished speakers. The enclosure design is the Fostex FE167E Recommended Bass Reflex Enclosure (15L). 18mm MDF was used which was glued and nailed together. The back panel (internally) has a layer of heavy sound absorbing vinyl glued to it and all internal walls have a thick layer of Dacron tacked to them. First impressions of the sound is very clear with strong transient response and pin point sound stage.
6T9FE167E.JPG6T9 Tube Amp and Fostex FE167E in Ported Enclosure.6769 viewsIf you have never built a tube amp, but wanted to, this low power SE 6T9 Tube Amp is a good starting point. But it will need efficient loudspeakers to go with it. The 6T9 amp cct. brd. is from Spare Time Gizmo. All components required can be easily obtained and the amp is simple to build. The Fostex FE167E is a 94dB efficient full range driver and works well with the low power 6T9 amp. All you need now is a CD player and you have an excellent den system or small listening room set-up. Let your mates have their B&Os you have something unique, great sounding and you built it all yourself! See the DIY Fostex FE167E Bookshelf Speaker page for more information about the speakers.
SV101502.JPG10" DIY Subwoofer - The 4th Dimension6681 viewsYou can spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours making improvements to your system which may only make the slightest bit or difference (or so you think) . I put in a sub-woofer system based around a inexpensive 10" convex driver, DIY sub-woofer processor and a DIY 200W amplifier. Suddenly my system has a whole extra dimension.
