DIY-Three-Way-Tower-HiVi-Loudspeakers.JPGDIY Three Way Tower HiVi Loudspeakers7426 viewsThese are David's version of the DIY 3-Way HiVi Tower Loudspeakers by Adam. The tower loudspeakers follow the plans for Adam's build with the exception that a HiVi Research RT1C-A is used in place of the HiVi SD1.1A.

Realistic-Minimus77-Speakers-AlMg-Driver.jpgHiVi BN4 Anodised Aluminium / Magnesium Midbass Drivers7647 viewsThe drivers in these metal enclosure Tandy / Realistic / Radio Shack Minimus 77 speakers, had been burnt out when a chip amp decided to deliver pure DC. So I upgraded the drivers to these metal cone varieties. The magnets (neodymium) are big partly due to the shielding which is done with magnetic repulsion. The cones are ultra-light and very rigid and the surrounds compliant. Power rating is 25WRMS and under listening tests, in the enclosures, go down to 100hz. The over-all sound is bright (see other image). The crossover is 1st order and additional dampening was added to the box.

Realistic-Minimus77-Speakers-Grills-On.jpgRealistic Minimus 77 Speakers with HiVi BN4 Midbass Drivers7538 viewsThese Tandy / Realistic / Radio Shack Minimus 77 (metal enclosures) speakers had already had one upgrade with better quality 4" drivers some months back. But after a chip amp delivered pure DC into the driver, thus melting the voice coil, repair was required. The drivers are Jaycar (Australian hobby shop) re-branded HiVi BN4 4" aluminum / magnesium convex diaphragm drivers (see other image). The overall sound is bright with little music much below 100Hz. But as PC speakers or compact bookshelf boxes they are satisfactory. The crossover (1st order) was also upgraded with the high pass capacitor upgraded to a polypropylene metal film type.
