Drilling such a thin chassis has its challenges and getting all the drilled points to line up with cct. brd. mounting holes can be frustrating. This amp is a poor performer under the CRO but produces an astounding stereo image. It plays small classic quartets, jazz groups and most voice and piano based music well. You need at least 90dB efficient speakers that can go deep for good listening. See the 6T9 Tube Amplifier Project page for more info.

TSpecial.JPG6T9 4.7W DIY Tube Amplifier in a Baking Pan3796 viewsA Tube amp kit based on Spare Time Gizmo's printed circuit boards which are plated through, solder masked and screen printed. I sourced common components from the local electronics shop but used a pair of NOS GEC 6T9, Alps potentiometer, solid brass knob and a Hammond power transformer. The chassis is a Teflon coated backing pan ($7). The OPTs are custom wound toroidals. The amp is a little bass shy. Doubling the 100uF power caps helped increase bass. They are based on the uni-amp cct. brd. You can plug and play KT88(s), 6L6(s) and EL34(s) output valves and switch between pentode and triode mode. The transformers are oversized and were special wound for Dan. Each block weighs over 22kg. The input and driver tubes are Golden Dragon 6SN7(s) with tube rectification. It uses tranni input coupling. Power is 27W.
