For the power supply I used some UF5408 diodes for the B+ and 6A10 for the heaters (they are on a heat sink as they dissipate a lot of power). Bypass capacitors for the driver stage are Rubycon ZL and for the power stage Nichicon. The B+ is lower to improve tube life.

This time the screen grid resistor was cut away and the UL tap was used. I believe it sounds better using the UL tap. Detail in voice appears to be much richer and the sound stage more detailed than with the previous amp. The tubes once more are NOS GE and are the taller variety. 6E5P_SE_6n1p_driver-_maze_OPTS.jpg6E5P SE, 6n1p driver, MAZE OPT's in a scrappy chassis for testings3122 viewsThis is one of my latest audio tube DIY projects made in a scrappy chassis for breadboard use and measurements. I 'll transfer it to a nice wooden chassis now for sure.
The tube in output is the russian HF tetrode 6E5P, with max anode dissipation 8.5 Watts. It's a hell of a driver together with a CCS or Choke loaded solution. The driver is a classic ground cathode with the 6n1p for both channels. The 6n1p cathodes are not cap bypassed so the gain in this operating point is ~ 8. This is what exactly needed to drive the 6E5P in full output without the use of a preamp. The PSU is a tube type one using the Sovtek 5AR4. All the PSU caps are MKP (Mcap by Mundorf 100μF/400v.
By the way there is no Electrolytic cap in this Frankie amp. The cathode bypass cap on the 6E5P stage (output) is also MKP by Solen 82μF/250V. The coupling cap from driver to 6E5P grids is RC type using the marvelous 0.22/1000V PIO K40Y Russian caps. The OPTS are a bit over sized with 5K primary impedance made by mazeboutique.com.

Here in the first version I also used the EL84 triode strapped as a driver. For me It was like hearing music from heaven.
That wooden case is from a liquor store having which contained Vodka and Brandy inside.

Current sinks LM317 at EL84 cathodes it not grounded but connected to a -24V negative power supply. That gives more gain, less distortion and gives also much more headroom for the output stage.
The coupling caps are 0.22μF PIO JENSEN. I' ll try the russian teflons in the next few days.
This tube amplifier simply rocks.

The only changes from the original schematic is the use of a 6X5GT tube rectifier. This is an excellent preamp. The 6SN7 tubes by KENRAD gives deep lows and velvet mids - highs. Coupling caps are Mundorf Silver Oil 0.68μF.

Output tubes are set with a fixed bias, using a separate and negative voltage power supply.
A nice sounding amplifier which provides about 10.5 Watts at 1.5 % THD. This amp uses Hammond OPT's and a PSU choke.

A Twinings presentation tea box was used as the case (similar to my Gwado CMoy / Grado RA1 Headphone Amp) with a remote PS. Cardas caps were used, all pure silver wire, silver solder, Alps blue velvet attenuator and 4 oz brass knob. The rear has a terminal strip for all the connections and the case is lined with a tar and aluminum film. The power supply has speaker absorbing vinyl lining it to ensure the switch mode tranni remains quiet.

The connections to the timber box are made by a 3mm think aluminum strip.The remote power supply is hard wired to the preamp via a short cord. This preamp has brought an element of focus to my 6T9 Tube Amplifier, Fostex speakers and from early listening, greater detail across the board.
