50L6GT Tube Amplifier
|
This little guy is something I came up with when a friend asked me if there was an inexpensive, but decent vacuum tube amplifier he could build. Well, it is low cost and sounds acceptable, but it is dangerous as one side of the AC line is connected to the chassis. Yes, I used a polarized plug, but it also depends on the receptacle being wired correctly... so I recommended that he should build it with an isolation transformer.
It uses two 50L6GT output tubes driven with a 12AX7A. The heaters are series strung with a 68 ohm resistor to take up the remaining 8 volts. The powersupply uses a 1N4005 half-wave rectifier, so it was a bit difficult to filter out the 60 Hz buzz.
For something cheap, it doesn't sound half bad. Though, it doesn't hold a candle to my 6T9 Push-Pull Tube Amplifier!
