The Tang Band W3-1878 is a 3" (75 mm) diameter fullrange speaker driver. The W3-1878 fullrange speaker driver features a underhung motor design with a large neodymium magnet. The speaker driver is built on a thick cast frame and uses a bamboo fiber paper cone and a rubber surround. Together, the driver has a relatively large excusrion (Xmax 4 mm). The W3-1878 speaker driver uses a unique phase plug which provides better high frequency dispersion. The Tang Band W3-1878 fullrange speaker driver is capable of an extended frequency response from about 90Hz to 20kHz. The Tang Band W3-1878 speaker drivers came neatly packaged in a cardboard boxes which indicated that the speakers were manufactured in China. There was no gasket, mounting screws or datasheet provided with the W3-1878 drivers.

The Tang Band W3-1878 speaker is an overall excellent driver. The W3-1878 is beautifully manufactured and sounds equally as nice. The driver provides a very wide frequency response and distortion is low. The off-axis performance excellent within about 15 degrees. The W3-1878 is a top performing speaker driver that provides good value. The Tang Band W3-1878 speaker driver is available from Parts Express.


Thiele/Small (T/S) Parameters - Tang Band W3-1878 Speaker Driver

The Thiele/Small Parameters of the Tang Band W3-1878 speaker drivers have been measured using the Dayton Audio Test Systems (DATS). The T/S parameters from the small signal speaker testing as well as the parameters noted on the W3-1878 datasheet are summarized in Table 1. The measurements were made at a room temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius.
