Really nice first build. You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into this project.

Maybe this is expected. But my Marblewood amp has really come alive lately. I built it during the Covid shutdown and use it almost every day. Anywhere from 2-8 hours. I've read that capacitors can take a couple hundred hours to come into their own, but maybe that is a bunch of hoopla.

I have rotated a whole bunch of different tubes through this amp. For the driver, rectifier and power sections. At this point I am running a used Telefunken EZ81, a NOS GE 5814A (12AU7) and a couple of NOS Tung Sol 5881 power tubes (6L6WGB). The 5881s are the most recent change I made. So it could be that these are what brought the amp alive. I'll have to swap them out for something else to check.

The amp just sounds noticeably fuller of late. When I first build it I found myself wishing for a bit more energy in the lower midrange, especially with Chill Hop. Most of my listening is Jazz vocals, and even here the sound is better now than a couple of months back. Speakers are Klipsch KG-4's. I tried a pair of Klipsch Forte IIs for a while, but they did not sound so good. I am building some full range driver speakers using the Fostex FF225WK, as an experiment.

I run almost exclusively 6L6 variants or 6W6s in my Marblewood these days. I think they provide much more full sound.

My two Wine Box 6L6 SE UL amps I think sound better than my 6V6 “Black Lace” amp (sold recently).

I notice the late Art Dudley loved his low power 6L6 push-pull amps.
