EM = Electronic Music

Think : Klaus Schulze, Isao Tomita, Tangerine Dream, Bernd Kistenmachen, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Robert Schroeder, Neuronium, Sequentia Legenda, The Intangible, VoLt, Vanderson, Space Art, Stellardrone...

For this, I use my Marantz 2250b and my pair of Magnepan SMGb.

Otherwise = Soul, Funk, Jazz, etc...

For this, I use my Klipsch Heresy and my Ultimate OTL6080 amps.

But not only - sometimes I use the rest of the Hi-Fi stuff for these kind of music styles, and of course other genres !

No Home Cinema and Noise, Never - Only Hi-Fi and Music, Ever - in my dedicated tiny room...

A good discovery M.Gregg. The name has a Thai sound and I wondered whether they have a Thai connection. Maybe a coincidence. In the KEXP interview they did mention they have played there. I wonder whether some of the folk music is influencing some of their Material. Look forward to hearing more.

Hi,

Yes there are times when they play and there are sections that if I close my eyes it could be from some old Motown or funk style on a vintage 33 or 45 record.
Then it changes again and you can hear the influence of different styles. I find it quite interesting. :)

Hi tubelectron,

The question has to be is your music a particle or a wave as it goes through the grid of your tubes? 8-)

Interesting pictures of the small room or is it a TARDIS....bigger on the inside etc.

Are your OTL based on the technics circuit?
It seems you collect guitars as well :D (I guess you play?) What type of music, just curious.

EM = Electronic Music.
I'm surprised you don't have a MOOG synth in the picture or did I miss it?

NB just realised, It might have been you some time ago and a mention of a 6080 circuit and reducing the number of 6080 in the circuit.
But I might be confused with someone else.

Regards
M. Gregg

Yes, @M. Gregg ;) ,

Yes, it's probably a combination between particles and waves ! :D

No, my room is small, really, but thanks to its shape, disposition, it fortunately provides a good damping, the tone is fine, without dominant resonances. The placement of the speakers at the lower bout tends to give some kind of "large horn effect" favourable to the bass extension that balances the small size of the room.

Are your OTL based on the technics circuit?

No, the Technics 20A circuit is indeed remarkable, but very complex : special design power transformers, great number of tubes, use of pentode power tubes (50HB26)... Here I used the principle of the Julius Futterman original patent circuit as a basis, which is a much more simple (but very clever) design :

That's true - but I must confess that my guitars are not really collector's items per se : most of them are average, DIY or low market value... And LH ! :|

The Magic 85 Orchestra I'm in plays mostly - but not only - Soul / Funk / 50-60-70s movie themes...

Here's a youtube link you can browse, where you can hear some of our tunes :

All of us are amateurs, playing music part-time as a hobby ! :)

To me the cost is moot, its what they sound like and what they mean to you that's the important thing / value.

I notice you have Danelectro they made some really quirky pedals and guitars but they were great I thought. (eye candy)

Its a nice set of guitars you have and obviously reflects you love of music.
I remember trying a Gretsch metal flake guitar after seeing it on an advert, but could never collect like you have, :D
Although I did own a red Jagstang! but I don't have it now.

Work got in the way, as it does.

Thanks' for the explanation of the OTL / circuit link it was a really interesting build thread.

M. Gregg

Hi, impressive music room! It must be a great place to escape to and unwind. I haven't heard of most of the EM acts you mentioned but am a fan of Kraftwerk's music. I have their 2009 DVD of the songs and video from the 2005 concert series that still had Florian in the band although by then he seems a bit disinterested behind the computer and controls. I see recently they remixed their old songs to update them to a more modern sound.

Thanks @M.Gregg and @Woodo ! :)

Yes, Kraftwerk is the band who drove me to EM !

I heard Radio-Activity on the French radio in late 1975-early 1976, while I was 10. It was different from everything else... It was a discovery for me, and also a trigger. I never left EM since then.

Of course, there is many styles in EM, and I do not like them all, but internet is a real providence for us EM fans, and indeed have contributed to relaunch and install EM as a musical genre definetly, while it has vanished quite suddenly in the mid-80s, eclipsed by more popular music like Punk, New-Wave, Hard-Rock...

It's also EM that drove me to buy a pair of Magnepan SMGb in the early 90s... They are ideal speakers for that style of music, due to their large emissive surface. A friend of mine has a pair of Tympani IV - way much larger ! - in a wide room, as you can see below. The results with EM and Classical music is spectacular... Just listening to some prog rock,

Its not everyone's taste but its interesting if you haven't heard it.
ELP brain salad surgery.
I was drawn to this in my motorcycle days by the cover, I still find it quite impressive.

I had the LP that opened up.
It seems that getting a decent copy without compression is quite hard these days.

Its not quite as good as the lights out album:
