Dad's audiophile mates all had fancy systems and the pack of mates all went to multiplie audiohphiles houses and used a class d amp with very fancy chip.
Everyone disliked the sound and all thought the base wasn't quite good.
Not entriely rember corrrectly about base not quite good, but overall sound wans't good enough compared to very expensive equipment 20-60k usd per amp stuff

It could be the crossover slightly off or the speakers not quite matched, perfect mathcing of speakers and crossover generally should be able to give you really nice sound.
I think the horn kind of in your face might be related to this.

If you wonder what I’m talking about read this first.

https://www.stereophile.com/content/gra ... lar-system

Made my own system and two mono tubes amps. One with a triode strapped 807, 6SN7 and 80 rec tube and the other 6EM7 mono. Both mono amps with attenuators, the 807 is a true integrated with half the 6SN7 as a preamp and the other half driver. Both wine box amps.

Mono speaker setup with 12” Beyma as woofer and Altec 511 horn with Faital drivers. 98db efficient and first order Xover at 1100hz. Plays loud. Nothing is as real as a mono setup and staring down the throat of a large horn.

Hi Mark, do bare feet alter the sound? :D The horns look nice and ought to to the job well. I am using Radian drivers on Seos 30 cm wave guides and need to pad them down nearly 16 db to match the Altec 416s that run at about 95 db/w. Lots of sound and few watts needed.

Good listening
Bruce

Only the central horn/woofer setup was used in the Salt Cellar system. Yep, 2W was plenty.

I find my feet get too hot in socks. Not sure it improves sonics though.

I’ve had a few Salt Cellar tube mono set ups this year. Here are some picks. Mono tube amps.
