Put on my Dire Straits LP I hadn’t played for 30 years or so without a turntable but was left a little let down by the sound quality. Great songs though. Sounds much the same on the mp3 version. Looking on YouTube I came across this live set with most of the songs off the album. Much better. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnFi ... Gn2dSVmBuU

There is an advert that took me on a search for the artist.

I have no connection but I thought it was great!

The music took me to this:

Great thread.

Go-betweens-Spring Hill Fair 1984.

The sound and feel of this album might interest some. Reading the wiki, members of the band hated it but for me I’m proud they did this despite the problems.

A retraction. Nothing wrong with the sound. Had a poor connection in the TT cable. Resoldered and all is fine. Animal drums and guitars and gritty details in quieter passages such as Wild West End. I still regard communiqué highly for its sound.

Just Listening to Fiona Apple Fetch the bolt cutters...on ytube on the strength of a Christgau review of an earlier album. Have watched some of her videos on our tv rock/pop show here and I recall being impressed. With this newish album I can’t believe the sound coming through the speakers. I predict I’ll be listening to nothing else for a while. It’s somewhat avant-garde and out there if up for the challenge.

Making my way through Christgau’s selection of his favourite 25 albums for the 2010s just now. Some beauties in there but his breadth of musical appreciation seems boundless compared to my comparatively stunted experience. Have Noname Room 25 playing atm on Spotify. It’s kind of fast spoken word lyrically dense, probably rap, with a funky electric jazz rhythm trying to keep up. Sound is amazing on a number of the songs. Thanks Robert.
