I am betting those 18W midwoofers and scanspeak soft dome are your current reference speakers.

The MLTL offers a bit more bass extension. The Scanspeak Revelator drivers are the best sounding I've used, but my reference is still the XT-8 line arrays. I alternate between those two in the downstairs system.

Back to the original topic, I agree about not needing near as much BSC when the speakers are placed close to the wall. The 4dB target is good for speakers that are pulled out about 3' from the back wall.

what do you think about the Tang Band W8-1772 full range driver?

The only full range speakers I have heard was fe127e and Phy-hp (I don't recall the reference). fe127e is very good and Phy-hp is amazing.
