Hi everyone,

I thought I might be interesting to hear how others run their amps in pentode output.
I'm looking what people think is the best way to supply the screen grid and ideas of the best sonic supply.

Regards
M. Gregg

No problem,
DIY audio is just a hobby for me. :D
I'm just looking at ideas that people think works well.
Stiff supplies or regulated supplies.
Use the B+ feed via dropper resistors AKA old valve radios.
Zener dropping and cap smoothing ect.
Looking at old equipment of the 50's/60's that used pentode output.
Some used noise cancelling AKA Aikido etc.

Regards
M. Gregg

I was thinking,

It might be interesting to make some small modules that I could fit in existing equipment.
So the real question is what is the most compact module to run pentode with good sonics.
This isn't just about a smoothed ripple free supply its about impact on sound.

Well then your looking at the voltage diffrence of the grid with respect to the annode which will have effect on sound quality.

Hope this is relevant to the thread. I noticed on the audiokarma forum a revered former member “kegger” was a prolific circuit designer often using pentode power stages. I know little about tube nuances myself but his approaches may be helpful to those that do. One thread is trying to assemble some of his designs. https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php ... ad.858662/

Hi, Sorry, I stick to U/L. But there is lots of data in the form of power curves (that indicate linearity) for many of the more common tubes. I would expect it to work like other configurations in that you look for uniform spacing of the curves in the voltage (anode) range you have to work with and see which of the various sets of screen voltages gives the best results.

Good listening
Bruce
