Hi Everyone, My newest acquisition. It is a turntable from about 1971 or so. Dating is not possible as there are no labels anywhere. It was only made here for about 4 years centering on that date. Others like it were made in the UK, but not with the native 60HZ 120 volt arrangement. It is a really unusual TT. Eye candy for sure. The mechanical transport part is a belt drive version. The LP is held up on the brass posts (with pads on them). It seems like it ought not work well , but does. The arm is very unusual. Instead of the whole arm moving up and down, only the cartridge holder does. That part is adjusted by a pivoting counter weight at the pivot end of the arm. Very tricky to set up, but seems ok once done. This was all done to make a very low moving mass arrangement. Most arms are in the 10-15 gram range (less cartridge) this one is about 2-3 grams. Only very high compliance cartridges can work well in it. This was all because they wanted to reduce tracking force to the very minimum. The arm is supposed to be able to track at 0.5 grams. The cartridge I am using now in it while high compliance likes to see about 1.8 so that is where it is set. A subtle feature of the pivoting arrangement is that it can track warped LPs easily. The whole arm doesn't have to move , just the head shell and cartridge. The general arm design is similar to what Dynavector does with their 505 series ones (they are way more costly though). Anyhow a fun thing that plays rather well and certainly gets attention.
