I have been told other tricks for reading values on obscure components, and have also found my own ways of relating capacitor values to what can be labeled on inductors, some of the inductors I have to figure out a table so I can read them because obviously the same or similar code is used on them to fool people.

One small inductor I have has the label 682 another 102.

And for mini single turn pots the code 101 stands for 100 ohms, 102 = 1K, 103 = 10K, 104 = 100K and 105 = 1M

So there is an obvious relationship to fool people who my be likely to try and copy a companies design, but most likely because that is the only number that will fit an a part of that size.

lol, The funny thing is these numbers are the same one surface mount resistors too, but I suppose you could also measure them.

A fun thing I did last night was disconnect the output stage of my cd player and took the audio signal straight from the DA converter, it sounded so clear it was scary! :o Although the music sounded a bit too thin, but It seemed to just be the cd.

And the really funny thing was the fact that there seemed to be the same amount of gain from the output, the output amps were just taking up space it seemed because the DA had no problem driving my 25EH5 amplifier.

I recommend this experiment for others, no harm is done, although not all cd players are the same, mine is an old JVC.

Pretty cool!
Might want to start a new thread with some pics and tell us about it. Probably no one is going to see that here under "green cap ID" ;)
