You did ok. I can't read the model number of that EICO vacuum tube tester. I have an EICO 625 Vacuum Tube Tester. There is a PDF of the manual on that page that should gibe you an idea on how to use it.

The EICO 625 is a tube emission tester. That gives you a basic idea of what condition the tube is in. It will not measure transconductance, so you can't use it to "match" tubes.

Gio,

It is a 625. Do you think I over paid. Recently the same model sold for close to $70.

I think I paid $75 for mine, but it had just been recapped and calibrated. It also came with a measured tube so I check it against that tube. It is useful for checking tube life but you can't use it to match tubes.

How and who could calibrate an item like this? I am ot looking for a specific person in my area, but a direction from which to start a search.

The best way would probably be to find a local electronics repair shop that has a calibrated tester and then get a couple of tubes measured and use those for reference.

I am having an issue that I can not seem to resolve. I can not seem to test my 6BQ5 tubes. The 5U4 and the 6EU7's test just fine. Not sure what is going on here. Any thoughts??

Thanks,

What sort of problem are you having? Did you set the up/down switches properly?

Gio,

They just wont test!! It is the damnedest thing. Like is said I can test both the 5U4 and the 6EU7's. As soon as I depress the merit switch I get results, except with the 6BQ5's.

What setting do you show for the 6BQ5? I have the following settings listed:

Shunt 15
Fil 6.3
Sel 3
Up [1,2] [6,9] [7,8]
Down 3,4

for the up selectors I only use one set at a time.

Thoughts?

alan

I'm gonna pull mine out to double check.

Are the heaters going on the tubes?
