I have 25 LR8K4 regulators in my parts bin. They were purchased in 2012 and have a freshness card inside the foil pack from Mouser. Do these get out of date or suffer from humidity? Can they be refreshed or something? Also who sells those little boards to mount them on? Where in here is the page with the LR8 regulator in the OddBlock section? Thank you, rparsh

Hi, My experience is that they don't have an expiration issue. I figure it is a contractual issue where they must specify a guaranteed date of performance. Sort of like the sell by date on milk. Does it go bad the instant the date passes...nope. Same for the LR8s. I have stock that old as well and they continue to work fine.

There is an article in the tech section on them. If you have detailed questions just PM me.

Search for the term "surf board" for the mounting boards. I usually pick mine up from Frys Electronics when I get there. They are a different name on the web. I would expect Mouser and Jameco to have them as well. I get the ones with several leads and cut off what I want at the time. Usually 4 for the K4 versions. This way I can run a small jumper on one end to the 4th pin and use it to connect the tab.

Good listening
Bruce

Mouser does that with LED's too. Might have something to do with a major customer contract as Digikey is quite OCD about safety packaging and they don't use the cards like it's a packet of coffee.

Cheers!
