I use standard mains single core copper,

I strip the insulation and replace it with PTFE.
It depends what I'm using it for, standard single core mains for current delivery.
I use other cable including silver but for standard you can even use guitar amp wire I'm not a fan of cotton except for signal wires.
If your not an Audiophool then any decent copper wire will do, as already posted you can use magnet wire.

On most of my projects I use silver plated PTFE 600V. Solid core or multi strand depending where its being used.
The down side is the solder needs to be correct for which metal you are using.
So whatever floats your boat..heat is a pig soldering PVC but YMMV.

Centre core of Ariel wire is also good but you have to sleeve it. (coax)

Regards
M. Gregg

You could go Digikey as well..
https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/general-cable-carol-brand/C2118A.12.03/C2118R-100-ND/16236
Rated for 600V, 20Ga solid, 100' spool for $22.
They've got a bunch of different colors available.

Or there's this
https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/adafruit-industries-llc/288/1528-1750-ND/6226987
Only rated for 300V, 22Ga solid, 25' spool for $3
Again, a bunch of different colors of this as well.

Digikey has pretty good shipping prices as well, In Canada anyways it's $8 flat rate, doesn't matter how much stuff you order.. I think one time my order was over 50 pounds, and still only $8.
If you go over $100 for your order it's free shipping too.

I see $31.39 (but I'm logged in there with a .ca account)
I'm testing a bunch of that stuff out now.
Seems a tad lower in quality than the AES stuff

Yea, I figured I'd post US pricing.. I forgot that a lot of the people on here are also in Canada.
I haven't actually ordered that particular product, as I tend to go for stranded stuff.. In any case, there are a lot of options on digikey.

Here's some 600V 20Ga stranded stuff in 25' spool form for $8.74 CAD https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/cnc-tech/11047-20-1-0500-004-1-TS/CN140R-25-ND/5844220
600V 22Ga 25' for $6.82 https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/cnc-tech/11047-22-1-0500-004-1-TS/CN150R-25-ND/5844214
Or there's 600V 22Ga 100' for $22.62 CAD https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/general-cable-carol-brand/C2117A.12.03/C2117R-100-ND/16220

I'm a huge fan of this 5KV stuff from Pomona (used this in my 845 amp) https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/pomona-electronics/6734-2/501-1886-ND/737854
5KV rated, 18Ga, 50' for $22.87.. Awesome deal if you ask me.
