Hi all, we have posted this project to the main site. See the 6EM7 Single-Ended Triode (SET) Vertical Amplifier project page for full details.

Thanks for sharing your work Matt.

Matt, real nice, I just took another looks. It must be real quiet with three chokes. The timber came up real well. Great colour and finish.

Where do you find the chokes you are using? I have ordered most of the components except for the chokes.

The smaller chokes are 1H, 240mA Triad C-24X chokes I buy in lots. I generally get them from Allied Electronics (C-24X (Allied)) or Mouser Electronics (C-24X (Mouser)).

The larger choke (the 8H primary) is actually a RDC-100 that used to be carried exclusively by Antique Electronics Supply. Unfortunately they are no longer available. As a replacement I would recommend the Triad C-14X (C-14X (6H, 200mA)(Allied))or one of the Hammond 159R (6H, 200mA), 159Q (7H, 150mA), or 159P (10H, 125mA) chokes from AES. All theses chokes are essentially the same size and all will all deliver very acceptable performance.

I hope this helps.

This is my first tube project after building a few SS amps so the newbie question. Is there a problem building the power supply section first and testing it without a load as I do with SS? I understand that a load is necessary for the amplifier section. I will probably have other newbie questions so be patient with me.

Always load your supply with what your math says will be the operating current. Some heatsinked resistors are your friend here :D
