... and any online reading material relating to tubes and power supplies easily comprehensible for someone who's far from an EE is welcome. Here, as other forums, many of the links in the 'stickies for newbies' are no longer valid.

I found this helpful and fascinating in confirming my choice of power supply and filtration to get the ripple down. The maths is manageable, at least there’s no calculus, even for those like me who should have been more studious. And there’s a few threads where Matt has included a spreadsheet to show how it’s done. Helps cut down on errors. Such as on @RossD 2a3 set. I’m still a bit lost on the reactance calculations though I recall.

@Woodo, Where did you find that spreadsheet? Found something similar on AudioExpress but not that.

That's mine. Send me an email and I'll attach the spreadsheet. Do you need Excel or Numbers (i.e Microsoft or Apple)?

Is the original 4s power supply sufficient for the 4s +cathode follower?

Got the spreadsheet. Thanks @Suncalc, I'm hoping it will help me better understand what's going on.

When starting to build the 4s, I had no idea of output impedance and its effects. All my amps are ss or chip-amps, with their low'ish impedance, 20k and maybe 12k for some of the chip amps, the 4s with a cathode follower sounds like the more sensible choice. Sadly, as I didn't allow much room to pack more parts into it, and the need to learn how to layout parts better, it may get cannibalized to build a 4s+ cathode follower.

And here are the speakers the 4s is currently mated to. Still dialing in their crossover. Sibilance is a bit much. It will have to be notched, or hopefully, just drop the overall tweeter level a smidge, which is much easier to do.

So I have to ask... Is the blonde ale for the speaker or the listener? :D

In either case, very nice looking speakers.

The adult beverage's purpose is twofold. There are times, especially after a rough day at work, that good music and a cold beverage hit the spot and when sitting beside the speaker in a picture, it serves as a size reference.
Thanks for the compliment. Colter Wall and Norah Jones sounds pretty special on those speakers with the 4s and a small TriPath chip-amp driving them. Probably have a half dozen, if not more speakers in various stages of completion sitting around, and a closet full of drivers to build more. Most my own design, others not.
Should get in some fancy wirewound resistors and Jantzen blocking caps for the 4s today. Well see what kind of difference they make, if any.
