Hi,

I have a Power transformer for a 50/60Hz., 120V or 240V, 50/60Hz. line to 500V (250-0-250) at 60mA center tapped and 6.3V (3.15-0-3.15) at 2A center tapped.

From the 6.3V secondary section I would like to generate 12.6VDC at 0.9A for the filaments.
Can this be done? Does anyone have a schematic?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

Danny

Look up voltage doubler.

I used the circuit that Magnus posted above for exactly the purpose that Danny has planned. With 6.3 VAC in, the output will be something like 16 volts DC, so you need to follow up the circuit with a regulator; I used a low-dropout LT1085 fixed 12-volt reg. I also used 2200uf capacitors instead of the 100's.

My Dynaco PAS3 uses this technic to get enuff voltage to the tubes from the 6.3V windings. And the Heathkit AA32 also uses voltage doubler for the B+. So it's a very common way of fixing a higher AC-voltage that you get from the transformer.
