Just got a pair of 8W 5K @ 60mA or 1.25K @ 120mA transformers. They happened to be a bit bigger than I expected so I have to use them for "something else", but what?

Got some 6L6 and the Russian 6P3S-E as well as 829, 832 and 6V6.

have power transformers of various kinds ...

If I had those transformers, I would start a true PP triode amplifier, by using the 11MS8 tubes I have over here :)

I believe they can offer 8W per channel.

Cheers,

Miguel

11MS8 is much like 6AQ5, aren't they? Got an 6AQ5 PP-amp already. BPlease note that the trannies are Single End.

The 11MS8 are more taller and fatter, they seem like the EL84.

They are power-triodes, and most of them were made in Japan.

I never heard a hi-fi tube amplifier performing in triode mode... So they will be my first attempt (one of these days).

I didn´t notice your OPT were SE...

Hi Magnus,
I see you mentioned 829. I've got an 829B are these same tube or similar? If they are would be interested to see what you can do with them.
Cheers
Chris

Why not a PL500 SET? Over here, as a 13GB5, they are one dollar tubes.

At 5K a 6V6 amp would be nice. Usually other tubes will plug-n-play with a general specified amp.

1.25 K is suitable for tubes like 6AS7 in SE with current about 90 ma and sound will be better 6V6 with 5 kohm OT. /But I advise You build OTL....After my OTL I can't listen my SEs 300B, 2A3, and I never will back to OT SE/.

I loved my 6AS7 until some one liked it more and bought it. Couldn't agree more with the suggestion-go for a 6AS7. And then a 6V6 (lol).

My suggestion would also be a 6AS7/6080 with the 1.25k load. The 6AS7 can be quite pricey but you cab ussually find a 6080 for considerably less. If you want to stick with tubes you already have at 5k you could make a amp suitable for 6L6 and 6P3S-E

Cheers
