I am wanting to build a line stage amplifier with headphone amp also, I want to keep it all tube, hopefully transformerless other than power, I would like to use octal based tubes, hopefully 12SN7's I have been thinking of this amp - http://gilmore2.chem.northwestern.edu/projects/showfile.php?file=barbour_prj.htm Brute Force, by Eric Barbour, the problem is, I don't know anything about impedance matching. My Grado's are 32 ohm. This amp is designed for 600... What are the problems with this, is there another amp that you all would recommend?

I want a reference quality sound, and bass and treble controls would be awesome too.

I built Bruce's Phono Stage and was thrilled with the results, I just haven't seen any line stages here that meets this criteria. (I can be oblivious to many things though...)

I want to get away from my modern Pioneer SS amp for headphone purposes, and I also have a couple of Baldwin Organ monoblocks I am wanting to use as Speaker amps driven by this thing, but they need a lot of gain. iPod output will only drive them to a reasonable low to low mid volume. They have four 6L6's and 6SN7 on input.

Thanks a bunch man, How far along are you? These tubes are a little pricey, but atainable, I may even have one, but I doubt it. I am a little confused by a couple of statements:

<It should be used only one tube per channel, but may also disqualify any (even low) enough headphones. (OTL). In addition, the circuit do without OB (OTL).>

also <Particularly depressing is the change from leg to the headphone output of the CD player (CDP-557 ESD) to the amplifier output, the difference is huge. About the EF86_RIAA can also listen to LP's wonderful, so that the return is quite difficult in the digital world.>

Gathering components - got most: transformer, tubes and most components apart from some BIG caps and resistors.

For something quick, how would I drive headphones with my little vom 580, it has four 6aq5's in push pull. I know there is a safe way to do it, just not sure how... I think it drives about 12 watts. It has opt's and I think it's rated around 8 ohms?
