And I'm going to need some help. This is going to take me a while. I need to spread out the cost which will also give me time to research more and more. I'm starting to put together a BOM, and once I'm confident that I have everything I need, I'll start buying the components. I have never built something like this, but I am an electrical engineer. I'm fairly comfortable with the schematics and the physics, but I have a lot to learn. While I acquire the parts I will be reading anything I can get my hands on to help me to understand. I you have any recommended reading please point me in the right direction.

I plan on copying this build here:

http://diyaudioprojects.com/Tubes/300B-SET-Amplifier/

I plan on following the schematics in this link, and using the 5V regulated PS for the 300B filaments.

To start can someone confirm that these transformers will work for me? Or If you would like to suggest others that would be great.

Hammond 1630SEA (Audio Output)
Hammond 278X (Power)
Hammond 266L12B (300B filament)

Thanks,

RigPie2005

Hopefully someone with way more knowledge than myself will chime in on the transformers but I would also consider Edcor. They get good comments and my Edcor power transformer ran cooler than my Hammond one.

I'm not sure where you are located for shipping so that would be a factor but otherwise the Edcor ones are cheaper too.

@mwhouston used these output transformers for the 300b project at the link. viewtopic.php?p=20139#p20139. In this thread there was a discussion about the choice of transformers and operating points among other things to achieve high power, low distortion and good sound.

What do you think of this build using toroidal transformers? I just received a quote for the custom mains transformer. I can get the custom mains power, 2x audio outputs, and the 10H choke for $319 plus shipping. This is quite a bit cheaper than the Hammond. I still need to look at the Elcor. I'll look at them this afternoon.

I have only used a small toroidal for the 300b filament supply. Works well. Others may comment on their use for power and output.

Hi. I used for 300B SE output transformer , Lunhall LL1623 With amorphous core. Expensive but quite good. Meawhile, I used toroidal power transformer Made by a workshop in Greece. It works fine and this is my favorite amp!

Good lack with your project
