So, some months ago I decided to build a Beauty Preamp.
This is what it used to look like:

Then, I decided to mod it. I added an input selector, an aluminum knob and changed the pot to an ALPS Black Beauty. Oh, and I also got an acrylic cover for it. Here are the after pics!

Very nice. I love the diy enclosure. For those who do not know, this is a 12AX7 Tube Preamp Kit.

That loks like an easy pre to build. I am interested in were you get them too.
And to find out if I can power it with my amps pre amp power plug as it has B+ of 262 and filiment of 6 volts built into the amp.and I would only need one as it is a mono system.

I used chloroform to glue the parts. They came already cut to the right size so I didnt have to use any of my cutting skills!

Actually it's a quite easy to build, and sounds really nice. Unfortunately, I dont think those kits are still available (they were sold by JAYCAR Australia if I'm not mistaken). I got mine from Bruce as he got two and didnt need the spare.

Oh, btw, maybe you could try building a simple 5687 preamp. Very easy to build and sounds quite nice too. I built two already.

Here are the pics of mine:

Yes, it shouldnt be too hard . And you could use a standard supply instead of the smps supplied, of course. When I built mine I had some trouble with the supplied smps and even got the tranny to build a standard PS. But after some mods the smps behaved.
