Oh that kit looks like it would be fun. Good thing I don't play guitar. ;)

As for the Vanilla kit...I looked at that one. It sounds like most of the other stuff I have seen. Im not really going for that "classic rock tone" I mostly used very saturated tones. My gain usually is set anywhere from 7 - 8. Something that will warm up my solid-state amp.
I don't have any experience with guitar gear, so hopefully someone else can chime in. But if you are looking for something with a gain of 8, this 12AU7 / ECC82 Cathode Follower Tube Preamp Schematic may do the trick. No tone / bass controls, but you could add some passive ones. Simple and you should be able to build it pretty cheap. One tube, so you won't need much of a transformer to feed it.

IDK if you guys misunderstood me or not....I dont mean 8 as a value....I mean 7 or 8 as in thats what the knob on my head is set to. Im looking for a kit with at least 2 or 3 tubes. 12ax7s'. Is there a list of links? Places where you can buy kits?

Ok scratch that idea. How about building a 12ax7 based tube distortion pedal?? Like the ones that H&K or Seymour Duncan or Radial makes?? I know thats possible. Anyone know where to find out how to do that? A distortion pedal that uses 2 12ax7 tubes?? Kits or designs or anything??

Or better yet.... I see videos on youtube of guys having built Soldano SLO 100 watt heads and smaller Peavey 5150 copies. How do you do this? Where can you find information on how to build an amp head?? Like a 50 or 100 watt tube amp head like a Soldano 100 or a 5150?

Just google!

The Secret is to know what you want and to know where to find the useful informations...
The first thing is on you, the second is on google, books, magazine articles, wikis and so on...
Now - and i think we have collected a lot of usefull sources (for years) that we use all the day!

I got the "Soldano 100" Schematic in less than a minute on three places ;-)
One can be found here: http://www.bnv-gz.de/~ooehmann/index.shtml
