Just curious, as a fellow tech and I were discussing this.

Is it SAN-ken, or SANK-en?

Cheers!

It's a personal curiosity. Nothing more.
I know some big league EE's hang out/lurk here and thought this the best place to ask.

Well I live on Södergatan (Southern st) in our small town. The letter Ö, often written abroad as OE is pronounced like I in fIrst. But due to my dialect Some people think I say Cedergatan (like the tree). And occassionally I have had packages returned to the sender as there's no me livibg on Ceder St. Well, there's no Ceder St at all in our place.

Other words that are hard to prounce is sake. But I have lerned it must be pronounced as suck-eh.

I think its SAN-ken
san stands for the number three in japanese.(三)
While ken stands for research in Japanese, where the full words for research in Japanese is kenkyuu(研究)

I saw the words三研 when opnening up the offical jpn site for sanken.
