A linear laptop PSU :D

Sure, a replacement is only $50 and can be carried in the bag, but this one cost $0 and eliminated digital noise when using my lappy as a sound source for demoing equipment.

Was a fun little project, too 8-)

Great use of salvaged parts. I would have expected a bigger cap following the rectifiers. It might prevent the voltage droop.

Good listening
Bruce

If you look real close, the caps are actually 18mF ... so 18,000 uF each.

Cheers

Yep!

Those were a scavenge from a pre-SMPS subwoofer amp.

I feel lucky that I have an old laptop and an ID chip wasn't needed.

Whelp, she's a performer! Charged the battery from flat to full in about 30-40 mins :smoking:

Needed every sq. inch of that heatsink to do it and the transformer got into "ST-70 power transformer" territory of heat :hot:

Now the battery is charged, general use it barely breaks a sweat.

Not exactly able to fit in the bag, but completed :D

I'll probably keep it at the store so the noiselessness of it makes for a decent soundsource out of the computer, then get a portable brick for oot an' aboot ;)
