Ahh. I did not get the KN and read it as Y, ignoring the last dit thinking it was a gramatical period. I am rusty on my pro.
I have to admit that I have not actually participated in any QRP or other HF band CQing. I try to keep my recognition up from time to time as I do plan on upping to General in the next few months (time for renewals). I've heard code is no longer required. My recognition suffers due to some, well, hearing shortfalls. I am overly sensitive to certain frequencies, such as those used for the code recognition elements of the HAM test. I can, under certain conditions, recognize. When I was practicing to take the code element, I practiced in a sonically sterile room, but when testing time came, it was in a room with a bad case of "hall effect". I couldn't recognize well enough to even extrapolate a message. I wasn’t alone, but that didn’t matter. Out of 15 petitioners, only 3 or 4 passed. I did petition for a retest and was granted. I did retest and passed with 85%. Unfortunately, it was not made clear I had to retest with the same VE. The FCC rejected the score. Oh well. I did get No-Code Tech, which was a brand new classification when I tested. Obviously, I would have preferred to be full tech. I’ve been idle for a while due to some “life” events (illnesses and a death in the family). These events put me in a mood that I was just not interested. I feel I am coming out of that, finally. My interest in my electronics “hobbying” has come back to life, thanks to a good friend turning me on to tubes (a rebirth for me, if you will). I am in the process of rebuilding my shop (yet another disaster that got in the way – a major flood wrecked my shop and destroyed some of my “toys” this past spring). I lost an Icom IC471A in that flood. Not happy ‘bout that. I still have to restore my Tek455 oscilloscope, which did survive, but needs massive cleaning of the signal amp boards now. Lost a Heath signal gen, and an untold amount of discreet components in a cabinet that were apparently perched on an edge of the table. I had a scattering of resistors, capacitors and semiconductors all over the floor, covered in slimy, stinky mud, but what was there did not account for the entire collection I had, so I can only assume as the water receded, it took some with it. Before I can get back on the air, I’ve got to fix my beam-directional antenna and repair my 2M J-pole, used to be a combo 2M/70cM, but the 70cM portion got yanked off when a tree trimming crew did some tree trimming on a tree that was in very close proximity (fortunately for them, I wasn’t home when it happened). My beam-directional has had damage over the years inflicted up on it by squirrels and big storm winds (all of this on a 20’ tower with an elevator rig that gets me up to 40’). Yeah, I got some work ahead of me. My primary focus is getting my shop back together. I’ve had to replace some of my power tools, which took a nice chunk of $$. That’s hamstringed the budget for tube projects and other wants.
I guess that’s enough of my diatribe for one night. Hope I haven’t stretched your eyeballs too far.
…-.-
