I'm sure a lot of you have seen that Joe Satriani has filed an infringement claim against Coldplay

Satriani claims the the Coldplay song Viva La Vida uses "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly.

The YouTube video that compares the two is not that great, but take a look at this one I came acroos:

There is no denying that the Coldplay song "Talk" is very similar to the Kraftwerk song "Computer Love"

There are a several more examples on YouTube.

I watched a one hour show of one of their performances on Paladia. On this particular show they sing then talk about the song. They openly admit to stealing bits or whole huge parts of songs. I forget what song it was, but they ripped of the entire drum track from some female artist. I know I am vague, but thats all I remember about it.
I really like Coldplay though :) Good music.

Yeah, I like their music too. Actually I just purchased their new album on 180gram vinyl this past weekend. The LP also came with the CD minus the jewel case.

Thats pretty cool to get both in the same package. I think Radiohead did that to. I am checking Amazon. Here it is, the description
The Limited Edition release of Radiohead's In Rainbows album. Contains 2 vinyls of the In Rainbows LP along with a CD of the same material. Also contains an additional bonus CD not found anywhere else, an 8 track CD of songs not found on the original album. No longer available anywhere, this item is a truly rare find.
And the guy only wants 100. I have seen it going for 40 more. Not my idea of a deal.

It is quite common for new vinyl to come in a bundle. Typically is it a free digital download of the album. This one came in an envelope, but some come with the booklet and liner notes and you just put it in your own jewel case.

Hi Gio,

A little off topic and a little behind in timing, but tell me a bit about your phono setup. I have a Rega 1 coming as a Christmas/Hanukkah present.

Coldplay is not the first nor will they be the last. Zeppelin and The Stones did it for years. But the Blues artists were either dead or to poor to do anything about it.

Alan

PS Check out the 50th anniversary re-issue of Kind of Blue, vinyl, 2 CD's and a DVD. If I could I would. One of the Best Recordings ever!

Hi Alan,
Right now I have a Rega P1 that goes into a NAD C162 and then into a DIY amp (tube or gainclone) and then into on of my DIY speakers.

The phonostage on the NAD C162 sucks. I have a NAD 1020 and the phono stage is much better on the old unit, but the 1020 needs a serious overhaul. A DIY phono preamp is on my to do list.

I think you will enjoy the Rega P1. I purchased a replacement mat off eBay as I am not to crazy about the felt mat that it came with. I will let you know how that turns out.
Cheers

Gio,

I am using my NAD 1300 as the phono stage for my setup. I am starting to question the status of all my NAD equipment. I think they are all in need of an overhaul. Just not sounding so good when I sit for a serious listen. It could be that the Harbeth/Levinson/Marrantz system I heard earlier this week upset my hearing.

I really want to get a Bottlehead Seduction into the setup. I have a birthday coming up at the end of February and that will be on my list. Actually, It may be the only thing on my list. ... May be I should get that list to my wife now. Sometimes, Doc Bottlehead had delivery delays. ;)

The P1 has to be better than the Technics that I have today. I dont remember it being that bad when I played oh so many years ago. But it could have been. Perhaps my ears have matured along with my waist line, hair line and hair color. ;)

Cheers,

Alan

Ps It will be nice to change my signature once it is official.
Alan
