I use an old Harmon Karden AV receiver as a pre-amp and a Adcom GFA 550 power amp.

The 5500 draws almost 2000 watts and I want to make a relay box so I can use the "switched" 117v outlet on the Harmon Kardon to activate a relay to supply the needed current to the 5500.

I see relays that are 60 Amp that are small and affordable on ebay.

Is there anything I'm missing that is a downside in this project?

Is there a pre-built unit that I'm not aware of?

Hi, The specs I see for it list it as a 200 Watt/channel amp. It would have to be horribly inefficient to consume 2000 watts. However the relay ought to work.

Good listening
