I had to post this I have no connection,

At first I thought it was referring to 6L6 or KT66 but then I noticed the EL34.
It would be interesting to hear any feedback from anyone that's tried these.

Hi, I read the article. OK the shape might make it sound different. Maybe. But when I go to the part where is said the blue tint made it sound better...it turned me off. IMO that is pure BS. Right up there with ionization devices that make the room larger. :nuke:

Good listening
Bruce

I've used Sophia 300B's.... they are better, but not *that* much better.

I love the EL34, so I shall reserve judgement until I hear a pair.

Cheers!

Yes the blue tint bit is close to the bone.
But the talk sort of got smeared from KT66 >>>into EL34.
So the question I have is (is it a KT or an EL ?)
Perhaps its a 5881 in blue glass LOL.
But I do like the shape, I have a U403 I bought just because it looked nice. :D
I don't see how you can mix the characteristics of "warm KT" and EL, its either plates or grids.
Unless its a bit like Groove Tubes selected grade of distortion.

Looks like they stuffed an EL34 into a KT66 bottle. The difference between the two envelopes will be better heat dissipation in the larger bottle. That's a positive, but like Bruce noted, the blue tint improving audio quality is a turn off. Another note, EL34 amps with tight tube spacing may not like the larger envelope.

Cheers

Love the shape and love the colour. I may get stoned here but the EL34 is possibly the very best power tube for those who want that absolute best tube sound, harmonics and richness no other tube can provide. I've read it and I've built it twice and I'm convinced.

So I would say leave the 34 alone. I'm not sure it can be improved on though there are dozens and dozens of variant, manufactures and builds. If it's a genuine 34 in a light blue dress I'd be happy to own one but if they have tried to clone it with another tube; forget it. Even a Electroharmox 34 will give you all that 34'feel you want at the price of a few burgers.

Hi, I had a quad of JJ EL34s with blue glass...they sounded the same as the ones without it. Not worth the price difference. I still have my original quad of JJ blue glass KT88s (from 2008) though. They still work and test fine after a huge number of hours use. My estimate is that it is past 5000 now. I was hoping that they selected the ones to tint blue from the better ones they made. Most likely just wishful thinking. BTW they make red tinted EL34s as well. I wounder if they sound "Hotter".

Good listening
Bruce

I remember the purple/ real dark blue EL 34's,

Groove tube used to sell them in the 70's.
But you could only see the heater inside them.

But here is a serious question, why does a Telefunken tube sound the way it does?
(compared to other makes) or what is a Bugle boy other than the stamp on the tube?
NB why even bother stamping it on a tube?

Regards
M. Gregg

I have too many EL34s in matched pairs or quad matched. Even a quad matched of Black Sables. Just saw that each Black Sable is worth $US149!
