Hi
The plans call for the following power transformer:
T1= 250vac @150ma + 9V@2.5a

Would the following be the right choice?

http://www.edcorusa.com/products/657-xp ... 0-240.aspx

Any cheaper alternatives?

Thanks
Jim

That transformer would certainly do the job.
I don't know of any others with a 9V winding and a 250V winding. Seems a little odd to me.

These question would be easier to answer if we had some idea of what the design was to which you are working. For example, a power transformer question would be easier to answer with a PS or amp schematic attached. Just a thought.

Hi Some designs that use DC on the heaters will use 9VAC and a full wave bridge followed by a regulator to get 6VDC. I do that in the kit versions of the Forewatt and pending phono preamp. I actually use 8.5 VAC to do that with an LM7806 or LM317 doing the regulation. In larger amps it is easier to use 10.9 VAC with a full wave bridge and get quite close to 12VDC without any regulation (just use lots of filter capacitance).

Good listening
Bruce

I think he was referring to this amp project:

As I too am interested in doing an amp with this design.... would someone be willing to confirm that that transformer should work?

Thank you,

BTS

Hi bobby, welcome to the forum.

The XPWR063-120/240 is rated at 250V @ 200mA, 30V (15-0-15) @ 1A center tapped and 9V @ 6A, so you will have plenty of extra capacity with that power transformer.

Cheers
