A new DIY Audio Project has been added to the site. Mark (in Australia) has been keeping busy and has put together a small single-ended 6T9 Tube Amplifier. He reports good results when this little amplifier is mated with a pair of high efficiency Fostex speakers. See his project page for more details.

We have added Bruce's second follow up to his original "OddWatt" (EL84 PP tube amplifier project). His latest creations are the "Odd Blocks" which are a pair of Push-Pull Mono Block Tube Amplifiers. Like the "Oddwatt 225" (KT77 PP Tube Amp), these mono blocks are scalable and can be used with a number of the octal tubes (KT77, EL34, 6CA7, 6L6GC, KT88, 6550, KT90). Like the previous projects the driver stage is an SRPP but this time Bruce uses the 12SL7 tube. The output stage is Class A Ultra-Linear self-inverting push-pull (SIPP) with Gold Lion KT88 tubes. LM317HV Regulators are used for the cathode CCS.

For full details about this project, see Bruce's "Odd Blocks" article: 12SL7 SRPP / KT88 Push-Pull DIY Tube Amp.

Discussion and questions about this project are welcome in the Oddwatt Push Pull Tube Amplifier Projects thread.

Just added to the site is Alan's very simple build of a 12AU7 Tube Preamplifier Project. This simple project can be built with little cost especially if you have a couple of 12V transformers which can be placed back to back.

For full details about this project, see Alan's article: DIY 12AU7 Tube Preamplifier Project.

Please note that in order to see the changes on the main site pages, you may need to "Refresh / Reload".

Bruce was kind enough to share another of his OddWatt Tube Amplifier designs with us. This one is similar to the first OddWatt project from about two years ago. The output stage of the amp is very simple and clean using EL84 / 6BQ5 tubes in a self-inverting push-pull (SIPP) topology which is driven by a 5751 SRPP input stage. The gain is high enough to allow direct connection to a portable mp3 player.

See the PoddWatt 5751 SRPP / EL84 (6BQ5) Push-Pull DIY Tube Amplifier project page for full project details.

The latest project from Bruce's is the Groovewatt, a tube RIAA phonograph preamplifier design. The phono preamp uses a solid state HT power supply and DC for the heaters. Gain of the phono preamp is 45 dB which is sufficient for use with high output MC cartridges. The phono preamp uses two 12AX7 SRPP gain stages, passive RIAA equalization and a 12AT7 cathode follower output stage.
