We have added a new DIY Audio Project to the site. Rogers (roggom) has put together a very simple hybrid headphone amplifier. The head amp uses a 12AU7/ECC82 vacuum tube for voltage gain stage and a IRF612 MOSFET follower biased in Class A with a passive CCS. What is nice about the project is that both the tube and MOSFET operate off of a 12-13V external switch mode power supply (SMPS). See the project page: 12AU7 Tube / IRF612 MOSFET Hybrid Headphone Amplifier for full details.

The update and support thread for this project is located here: 12AU7 / IRF612 Headphone Amp - Update

The latest DIY project added to the site is an inexpensive and low voltage JAN6418 Tube Preamplifier / Headphone Amplifier Kit. The kit can be powered from a single 9V battery which makes it ideal for those to vacuum tubes which are typically high voltage circuits.

New on the site is Rogers' low voltage 12AU7 (ECC82) Tube / IRF510 MOSFET Head Amplifier project. This is an updated version of his 12AU7 / IRF612 headamp from Aug 2008. The main difference is that the load resistor has been replaced with a LM317 regulator chip.

A simple and low voltage headphone amplifier that uses a 12AU7 (ECC82) tube voltage gain stage, followed by a IRF510 MOSFET follower stage. A 12V SLA battery is used for the power supply and a LM317 regulator is used as a CCS to bias the MOSFET into class-A operation.

Mark has put together another of the Oatley Electronics kits, the Oatley Electronics K282 RIAA Phono Preamplifier Kit for moving magnet cartridges. Included in the kit is a "universal" power supply that should work just about everywhere.

See Mark's builds of the 6418 Tube (Valve) RIAA Phono Preamplifier Kit.

The NP-100v12: 12AU7 (ECC82) Tube / IRF510 MOSFET Headphone Amplifier project page has been updated to reflect that some brands of 12AU7 / ECC82 vacuum tubes would not allow proper bias settings with a 10k potentiometer. With a 47k or 50k trimming potentiometer the bias can be set across a wide range of tubes types and brands. The schematic and BOM have been revised to reflect a 50k pot.
