M. Gregg wrote: An album worth a listen is : Rain Tree Crow: I have that CD M.Gregg, quite enjoyable after all these years. I also liked some of Japan's songs involving David Sylvian IIRC "gentlemen take polaroids?" or something similar. He did a tour or two with Robert Fripp, I havent really searched that out. I might plug an Australian Jazz fusion band I liked some time back. Crossfire - youtube has a film of them at the Montreux Jazz festival from the 70's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCuNKxhiQrk . I have a Michael Franks live album with Crossfire as the backing band I am looking forward to hearing again when I have my turntable up and running. Crossfire has a direct to disk recording too I have never heard, hope someone posts it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCuNKxhiQrk |

I may have recommended earlier but “in two minds” by bruford and borstlap is worthy of a listen. Good sounding and arranged well. One track gives your cones a real workout. Mainly jazz oriented but defies categorisation in some respects. https://youtu.be/5xmwULde3wA |

Thanks @M. Gregg for reminding me of the existence of rain tree crow aka Japan etc. now going back to listen to their back catalogue. They had a nice fat sound comparably in the 80s. The glam style may have put me off then sadly but a very talented group of youth. I see also nods to Bowie, Roxy Music and kraftwerk in some tracks. Played some Rush too - a group I should study a bit more. |

They made some great tracks and drove some guitarists to drink trying to get the harmonic overtones and trying to play their music. It also evokes some great memories for me and some times in the past at interesting "heavy metal discos" what a strange time it was. Well worth a listen, in the past groups of people would relax in each others company and listen to music like Rush drinking and watching the sun set. Rows of Motorcycles with chrome glinting and laughter ringing into the night. River boat shuffles and dance music. We thought at the time it would never end, but time moves on, I'm told its called progress. Regards M. Gregg |
