Mark - main street of Daylesford - Mill Markets now has a shop in the old 'Rex' --> they have a few records upstairs - I picked up 4 - Howard Jones, One to One - Mike and Mechanics - Living Years, Paul Young, Secret of Association and Heart - Self Titled. Yes I'm a product of the 70s that grew up in the 80s ; hence my taste.

I have a new TT these days (DJ-3565) and a MC cartridge. Also I have been making some different MC preamps- Le Pacific and Jean Hiraga. Today I purchased an anti-static mat for the platter. It has carbon hairs embedded in the mat which are suppose to drain away the static from LPs. I haven't tried it yet but will write back when I do.

Hi!

Today I was lucky. A friend of mine brought a Rega P2 turntable with some records.

I got so impressed, how can a record with a decent turntable sound so good.

I must have "lost" my chin somewhere during the audition.

I strongly recomend all tube and vinyl lovers to listen to Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert.

The setup was the usual, EL34 Oddwatt, Boz J-Fet pre-amp and some KEF 90dB speakers.

Believe me, it is something truely amazing! :P

Cheers!

I listen to more vinyl then CDs. I still think they are the best. Nice to see a tube amp in use above. Nothing wrong with an EL34 amp.

Recently I have bought a few Speakers Corner re-mastered 180gm pressings. I have spent the last two days listening to Mahler #2 with the London Symphony conducted by George Solti (1966). This double LP set is beyond description and to be listening to it on my newly finished ATS25/807 power amp has made for an extremely pleasant last few days.

DECCA - can there be any better?

Excellent find (don't remember where I got it): Wolfgang Rubsam playing Franck. There's also a release on CD (Bayer) - I don't know if it's the same recording.

DECCA - Otello - 1955. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra: Mario Del Monaco, Renata Tebaldi, Aldo Protti - with Herbert von Karajan. Absolutely exquisite. YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS. Surface noise is high but music 100% intact.

Recently bought Felix Mendelssohn Symph. #3 - Scottish. Wiener Phil - Gustavo Dudamel on Deutsche Grammophon. This was recorded in 2011 for some sort of child benefit concert and four of the movements have been pressed to 180gm vinyl. This is romantic classical and while side one is easy listening Side B is a little more heavy. This is a one of pressing and should be in every ones classical collection. Well recorded, excellent pressing and relaxing to listen to.

Once more I have been bashing the Poor Stores to find another $1 treasure: "Isaac Stern Plays Brahms". Sonata #2 and Sonata in E-Flat. With Alexander Zakin on Piano.

The pressing is a mfp - Australian pressing and waffer thin. This is an excellent LP in very, very good condition (90%+). It is a very simple and clean recording. It almost sounds amaturish. Just piano and violin-real and raw. My SET loves it (and so do I). I have played it through twice in a row now.

Absolutely excellent. But I am a sucker for Brahms violin pieces.

I have just dug this LP out and given it another clean and play. This is a great recoding and as I have stated before has a real raw sound about it. I was interested to find out which company recorded it and when this was recorded. After a lot of Googling I find out it was recorded in Canada in 1973 and originally recorded and released by Columbia (Masterworks) . My copy is an Aussie reprint (mfp) with no mention of Columbia or a date to be found. Once more I enjoyed this excellent, natural sounding recording.

Current gear: Rega planar III TT, Ortofon Rondo Blue MC cart, Hiraga bipolar MC stage, BHL phono stage, Menatzchim - C3m metal tube preamp, SynergyII\Cu chip amp and Osborn 3 ways towers. Nice!
