Hi Everyone, I just got one of these cartridges. If you like the Grado sort of sound but feel it is a bit too laid back then this cartridge might be right for you. I mounted it in my diy EDS1000 (guts of a Dual 701) / diy plinth turntable with a Jelco 370H arm. Tracking at 1.7gm with a Lofgren alignment. Lovely sound, powerful bass and low mids, but not so much as to degrade the rest of the spectrum. Wide sound stage, very nice level of detail. Super on both male and female vocals. Great on instruments, it nearly makes the horribly recorded (IMO) piano in the Diana Krall "When I look In Your Eyes" LP sound good. The Sonata sort of sounds like a blend of the best of other Grados and something like a Benz Micro or possibly Dynavector. A bit pricey, but if you are into high end vinyl a worthy contender. There are two versions one at 1mv and one at 4.8. I have the 4.8 as it matches my tube preamps better. Many phono preamps will not have the correct settings for the low output one as it still uses the 47K loading. A keeper in my system. Beware it is physically large and weighs 10 grams. Some arms may be unsuitable for it.

Good listening
Bruce

The low frequency information and its portrayal of bass dynamics are solid, powerful and authoritative. The midrange is rich, complex and highly believable. Its top-end seems to extend forever with speed and remarkable delicacy. Imaging is detailed and precise with a soundstage that wraps its arms around you and draws you into the music.

Hi, Yes indeed, I use the term authoritative in some comments to friends. It makes the 15 inch (30cm) drivers in my Altec Lansings work a bit on some music.

Good listening
