Hi, There are folks more experienced in this sort of design than I am, but I have used such devices a while back. I found at the time that they needed a symmetrical power supply or one with a vitrual ground at half the VCC. Another issue with the ones was that the signal level was limited to about +/- 2 volts. It would likely be OK for the low level signals you want to control, but the 12VAC would be too much. What might be an attractive alernate is to use a quality motor pot from ALPS. A PIC control would be moderately easy to implement and actually several are available as modules on the WEB. I personally use PIC controlled relay switched controls in my designs. They are very quiet and reliable. Something like the V02 control might work for you in either situation as the signal level does not matter.
