Gio,

Wife has the camera somewhere? :( I put the ceramic in, and no more pop!  Plenty of room for the ceramic! I put it in with the switch. I could have put it in with the motor assembly just would have been a bit more work.

Cool. So there was a lot of room? Is the switch on the mains and what were the cap ratings you used?

Gio, there was a lot of room for the ceramic. I am not sure if that really qualifies as "a lot" but there was plenty. ;) I did not pull the PCB that was connected to the switch, the power supply and the motor so I can't verify if we are switching mains or not. Sorry.

As for the cap I used a .01 uF that came from the Surge Board from a Lafayette SS amp. From the research I did I am comfortable that it is a 500V even though it was not marked.

Here is a photo of the capacitor I installed on the Rega P1 on-switch. It is a 0.0047uF ceramic with a 1kV rating. This stopped the turn-on pop / thump /noise.

Gio,

That looks about like mine did. Did you check to see if we are switching mains?

It is much nicer sounding this way.

I looked at the circuit and it appeared that it did, but I did not confirm.

Gio,

I guess the world will never know. Another Great mystery equaled, perhaps, only by "How many licks does it take to get the the center of a Tootsie Pop." ;)
