Spotted this http://www.aloaudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_9&products_id=27 on the interwebs and I was stunned.
For $299 it seems you get a bit of wood and some auricaps. From looking at the shot with the caps on display I can see a resistor or two hiding out in there as well.

To be honest I'm not sure what you're getting for your money here... thoughts?

From what i've seen on their other docks, this could simply be a coupling capacitor setup including 2 load resistors.
Has the ipod DC at the output? Otherwise i dunno. Doesn't make a sense at all... That really appears like some wood
and some nothing - for big bucks. Is the quality of the AuriCaps really audible through an ipod?
I think they only sell the name "AuriCap".

OK - i must admit that those wooden blocks are very fine, but are they worth the money? The components are not.
Every guy from the primary school can do the electronics at home. The battery charger option doesn't push the material costs.
This are cheap regulated supplies or cheapo SMPS. There's no need for good supplies to charge an mp3 player battery.
That's how it is. Esoteric Hi-Fi is always very expensive..

You are probably right: "Money For Nothing" (Dire Straits).

Just my simple opinion from the first thoughts.

They sure look cool :P But most cirtainly a "money for nothing" deal, but isn't that the case with most of the fancy solid silver and gold audio products?

The ipod has good sound, but to spend $300 on a docking bay without a remote is a bit much. I have yet to see a simple tube preamp that can house an ipod docking bay. That would be more interesting than just a basic block of wood with a couple Auri caps, cool, but not cool enough for the cost. :2c:
