As most of you know, I like to keep myself busy, and I have a number of upcoming plans. This is something else I've thought of doing; a hard disk MP3 player.

Here's the one I have in mind: http://www.pjrc.com/tech/mp3/

Any thoughts on this?

Kind regards,

John

hi John,

That looks like fun. The hard drive will need its own power.

I think it would me more flexible if it could attach to a network and pull media from a network drive.

What were you thinking of doing with it?

I thought it would be fun to build. I have got some ideas for additions for it, one of which has already been done by another builder, and that was to add USB connectivity to it so it can be updated easily from a PC. I think I would look into adding network connectivity to it aswell. But that said, I think if I was going to do down that road, I'd probably go for a PC based idea and run it on a version of Linux with a good quality video card and sound board and make more of a media centre out of it. My problem is, I easily run away with myself when it comes to ideas. I can always think of features to add to something, no matter how complex it seems to be. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though.

The way media is going, a PC based media center is not a bad idea. Plus the cost is very reasonable.

The truth is though, if I go down that route, I may as well go the whole hog and do a full media centre, one that does video, records TV etc.
