So on a PC CD-ROM drive is the DAC in the CD-ROM unit?

I saw that too... needs a "proper" DAC.

Cheers!

You could use the controller to make an inexpensive transport which could be fed to a DAC. The key would be finding a good CR-ROM/transport.

Kjell: any chance you can check if the controller unit will also control a DVD-ROM?

BTW - here are some similar builds and enclosure ideas: http://www.sonicillusions.co.uk/diy.html

Hi guys,
In this very moment i just fired up my " The bum's cd - player " project and i got very suprised of
the quality on that sound
totally improvement compare to my LD player and Dvd player ( Pioneer ) on audio,
clean crisp sound picture and a totally noiceless mechanism with no hizz or crack's or any static and
remote work's just great and still yet i haven't a proper power supply for'it at this moment but is ordered so in mean while i had to put together a small unit at mere 2A so is not quite enough.
First i tried a Aopen but it was just too noicy so i took a Pioneer Dvd burner and
So i for shure gonna order a bunch of these gadgets later on,
might as well post a pic on "Breadboarding" and will be back when complete,

Thats'it for now,

Regards,
Kjell.
