Hi Guy's,
I just couldn't resist when i saw this little gizmo on e-bay ;)

Image

do to a fact that i don't have a pure CD player just my Laser disc player and Dvd unit then i might as well build a kind of personalized Cd player,
my thought is to make a alubox and then take a massive piece of mahogny front and smack'it together with some holes for Ir and display and maybe control buttons,
and of course I don't throw anything away so find a CD-ROM wasn't a problem at all ;)
only thing i have in ( stock ) is a 2 A tranny and I don't know if that is enough to power this unit
because on CDROM it says 12V - 1400mA and 5V - 2A but at least i can try and see what happens,
at a glance with math it want 3.4A total but that sounds little extreme to power a CDROM
this 3 piece CD controller kit cost $31 incl. shipping which i thought is nice.

Regards,
Kjell.

Hi Kjell, the kit looks interesting. Is a DAC included with the kit? For the power supply you could consider using a PC power supply. Let us know how you make out.
Cheers

Hi Gio,
While you fishing in trash can's after a cdrom grab a IDE cable too and just connect drive to board
then you take out audio signal at rear of player in form of analog and/or digital via Berg connector.
Just finished a power supply for testing but wasn't enough with 2A so i founded this on e-bay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEAFB:IT

For this price i cant even get close to build one for so i ordered 2 of those to a cost that i can't
buy 4 regulators and 2 rectfiers for here in Sweden :?
then you will need trafos , caps etc etc,
At a friend's garage i found a US style ammo box in steel !
Hmmmm , Cd - player in a ammo box :P

Regards,
Kjell.

Yikes, hard to go wrong with those prices.

So on a PC CD-ROM drive is the DAC in the CD-ROM unit?

Good question
haven't the foggiest but i know is that they can't play Mp3 without decoder but if you run a audio
cd or data cd is no problem so i'm pretty sure that DAC is in the unit itself.
Mp3 normally goes into soundcard if'it get decoded there or with help from software only a guess
from my side and also depends on soundcard.
I just got a manual on this gizmo but it is in PDF and don't know how to post that format here.

Regards.
