Hi folks. Newbie to the forum.

Scenario: I'm building a guitar 1 12" combo cabinet using an EVM 12L. EV has plans available for a small cabinet based on the Thiele parameters specifically for the speaker. As long as I maintain the internal volume and the port size, can I change the cabinet dimensions and maintain the Thiele optimization for the speaker? Or do I need to do another cabinet design to my desired dimensions?

Thx.
Michael

This is not only a function of volume, but a function of wavelength. So you should maintain the proper proportions as well as the volume. Keep looking for something more optimal to your needs - OR - you could build the Thiele Box *within* your planned box, if that works out.

@Peter,

"function of wavelength" are you referring to standing waves? Could you suggest a good PC (windows) speaker cabinet software?

TIA
Michael

Not just standing waves, but harmonics and cancellation effects.

Lots here: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/calculators

I suggest you take the parameters you have, and try modifying them to what you want, and see if the software permits it.

Best of luck with it!

what sort of stuff do you play?
and what sort of tone are you after?
the classic EV 12L in the "standard box" does acheive a flat response down low great for using them as a wideband monitor for playback but on distorted guitar not so good (except for clean tones with reverb)

back in the day the "Classic TL 806" was built as "mid component" for 3 way PA.
