Hello everyone! This is my first time using a forum :alien:

I'm looking to design a portable (boom box) that incorporates a folded horn design to enhance the bass from the relatively small speakers,
similar to the (wave guide) design Bose uses.
The first thing I'm unsure of is how big my opening should be at the start of the horn, (the smallest end).
If anyone could give my some pointers on how big I should make this opening, it would be greatly appreciated!
For the drivers I will be using peerless 3" full range speakers, the diameter of the speaker to the rubber surround is 72mm.
again any info will be great, I will keep you all updated with the progress.
cheers! :beerchug:

Welcome to the forum.

For designing T-Line speakers and folded horns, I would suggest: http://www.quarter-wave.com/
There is info on the theory and design.

Cheers

what is the lowest frequency of interest and how much spl do you expect?
the size of opening at "the small end" is generally referered to as the throat of the horn and it's size is dependant on several factors that are prime to the design target.
why are you using full range drivers for sub duty or are you thinking of a rear loaded horn on two fullrangers?

Be realistic, too...... Even these won't hit 20Hz (they go to 42)

Hello pwilkinson91,

i made a few horns for 3" driver, take a view:
http://www.hm-moreart.de/24.htm
http://www.hm-moreart.de/130.htm

how big?
AH Horn throat around 0,7-0,9 Sd
EBP of the driver over 110 Hz.

mobil?
out door, to much to built no effect,
every 8" BR is smaller and better.
in door, the smallest enclosures you will get
by a corner horn construction
